Sadness is an interessting emotion.

It is interesting because of how we respond to it.

There are as many responses as there are people.

Yet it is still a challenging emotion.

Sometimes we just can't deal with it so we surpress it.

Other times we are so caught up in it that we can't stop crying.

While still others can marinate in it for quite a long time.

Artists use it to inspire works of art.

And so many songs have been written about sadness it is hard to count.

How we deal with sadness is a very personal choice.

We all will have to deal with sadness at some point.

For we all lose people we care about.

Tragedy strikes every community at some point.

So our sadness is not just our own.

It can be familial sadness, racial sadness, or even generational sadness.

Although the pain of sadness is something we all try to avoid, we can learn how to deal with it.

We can even find ways to make sadness serve us.

For when we reflect upon the sadness of the loses we have suffered, perhaps we can find a way to appreciate more of what we have now.

To appreciate the preciousness of all of life's experiences.

When we know that one day what we have today will be gone, perhaps we can how what we have today with a bit more gratitude.

Learning to appreciate the present moment that much more.

Our sadness is a reminder that what we are experiencing today will one day be gone.

So let's celebrate what we have today and soak it into our souls.

Sadness is not something to ignore or shun.

It is one of our greatest teachers.

If we are truly open to the lessons it has to share with us.

How can you use your sadness to help you appreciate what you have now?
