It snowed today in New York City.
When it snows here, everything gets much quieter.
As if there is a sacredness to the snow.
And the snow is beautiful as it is falling.
That beauty lasts for a few hours before it turns to a grey slush.
It just embraces us while it is here.
Then it is gone.
I went to the gym today.
My first visit since mid-December as I was traveling and recovering from my travels for a bit.
There were five people in the gym when I got there, which is a lot for the tiny gym in the basement of our building.
It's not large, perhaps 600 square feet or so.
Usually when I come down there are just one or two other people there.
New year's resolutions I guess.
It just waits there to be used.
To be a support to everyone who wants to be healthier.
Help us get stronger, get more fit, so we can live a better life.
The gym doesn't care if we only come down once a week or once a month or once a year.
Waiting for us to show up and do our part.
Just like life.
So much is here for us.
To support us.
Hold us.
Supporting us in ways we are not even conscious of.
Giving us the things we need to live.
Air, food, water.
They are there for everyone, those we deem as good and bad alike.
Life doesn't distinguish between those that hurt others and those that love others.
To appreciate the beauty of the snow.
Or climb up a mountain to see amazing views.
Yet it is us who must do the climbing.
We are the ones who need to stop and take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the snow.
For that is all we have, just moments in time that are here for us.
Waiting for us to notice them.
So why wait until it snows to notice?
Can we just a moment each day to notice where we are and what we are doing?
Whether it is in the gym or not, life doesn't care.
Only we do.
