[NEW EPISODE] The Importance of Context

This week, on The Conscious Consultant Hour, we have another special show with just you and Sam as he shares all about why it is so important to look at everything in our lives in context.

So often we get confused why things are the way they are or why people act the way they do. It can all appear so chaotic and random.

Yet when we bring context to our situations and our life, things make a lot more sense. For nothing happens in a vacuum and the apparent randomness of life is a lot more understandable when we view it all in context to what is going on around us.

This does not mean that everything will get better or easier to cope with. But it does mean that we can approach life with a deeper understanding and a deeper appreciation for what is happening.

Tune in and share your own thoughts about how context, or the lack of context, has helped or not help you on our YouTube livestream or on Facebook.

00:00:35.540 --> 00:00:53.830 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: good afternoon, my conscious Co. Creators. Good morning. Good evening. Wherever you're tuning in from. Welcome to that conscious, consultant hour awakening humanity. I am very, very pleased that you are all here with me today.

00:00:54.380 --> 00:01:05.209 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: It's one of those special shows that it's just me and you, so I hope. Excuse me, I hope you'll be posting on the live street.

00:01:05.500 --> 00:01:28.330 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: on the live streams and interacting with me. we've got an interesting kind of topic, something I don't think I've ever talked about on the show before. but of course oh, by the way, and I hope you caught caught my show last week with Dr. Natania Watel. She was wonderful talking all about healthcare and AI and all kinds of things.

00:01:29.320 --> 00:01:32.310 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So this week we're going to be talking about

00:01:33.360 --> 00:01:40.980 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: taking things in context, and I'll get into exactly what I mean by that. But of course we start off.

00:01:41.060 --> 00:01:45.269 as we always do with my little section of my book.

00:01:45.940 --> 00:01:47.680 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Everyday Awakening.

00:01:48.310 --> 00:01:51.349 and this section is entitled.

00:01:52.570 --> 00:01:57.250 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Contribution is about how we feel when we give back

00:01:59.330 --> 00:02:07.609 contribution is not really about other people. It is not about our community, our friends, or our world.

00:02:08.360 --> 00:02:22.080 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Contribution is about finding meaning in something more than ourselves. It is about how we feel when we give back to the society that has given us so much

00:02:22.980 --> 00:02:31.580 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: our contribution can be an effort as small as giving to a charity or organization that is doing good work.

00:02:31.760 --> 00:02:33.110 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: A few bucks

00:02:34.490 --> 00:02:46.589 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it. It also can be truly giving of ourselves, like donating our time and energy to a shelter or soup kitchen, by showing up and pitching in with our 2 hands.

00:02:47.360 --> 00:02:51.929 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: There are many ways to contribute, not just time or money.

00:02:52.370 --> 00:02:55.120 we contribute with our influence

00:02:55.590 --> 00:02:57.340 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: or are resources.

00:02:58.450 --> 00:03:02.569 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we can contribute our ideas or our expertise.

00:03:03.750 --> 00:03:15.330 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: The act of giving is more about how it makes us feel when we give than about being altruistic and gaining recognition.

00:03:16.030 --> 00:03:23.269 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Of course, feeling good and altruism are not necessarily incompatible or exclusive.

00:03:24.860 --> 00:03:39.350 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: The point is. there is nothing wrong with doing the right thing, because it makes us feel good indeed. Isn't that the sign of an enlightened soul

00:03:39.490 --> 00:03:42.749 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: to take pleasure in helping others.

00:03:44.420 --> 00:03:47.709 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Where do you feel called to contribute?

00:03:48.520 --> 00:03:52.700 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Where can you find joy in helping others?

00:03:54.670 --> 00:03:58.110 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So I wrote this section

00:03:58.950 --> 00:04:03.159 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: after having a conversation with someone

00:04:03.480 --> 00:04:06.860 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: who was talking about the importance of contribution.

00:04:08.260 --> 00:04:10.679 And we were having this discussion about.

00:04:11.740 --> 00:04:15.740 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know, contribution.

00:04:16.170 --> 00:04:18.740 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know, about helping other people.

00:04:18.990 --> 00:04:21.610 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant:  that did it.

00:04:21.940 --> 00:04:24.279 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know contribution about.

00:04:25.290 --> 00:04:34.300 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know the act and and is contribution really about the other person or not? And and this person said, Look.

00:04:34.680 --> 00:04:40.839 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: contribution, isn't we? We? We contribute, we give, we, we.

00:04:41.110 --> 00:04:47.540 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we, we, we put money into charities and organizations, and we we do things.

00:04:49.260 --> 00:04:51.440 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Yes, it's for the other people.

00:04:52.350 --> 00:05:00.860 but it's only for the other people, because of how it makes us feel. because if it didn't make us feel good to contribute.

00:05:01.130 --> 00:05:12.230 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: whether it's anonymous or non-anonymous. We it only makes us feel good. It. We only do it because it makes us feel good.

00:05:12.430 --> 00:05:27.740 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: because if it didn't make us feel good to contribute. We wouldn't, I mean, of course, there are circumstances where you know. Someone twisted our arm or shamed us into contributing, and we didn't really want to do it. So there is. There are always

00:05:29.260 --> 00:05:33.120 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: different situations, and you always have to take it in context.

00:05:35.060 --> 00:05:37.449 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But the real motivation

00:05:38.320 --> 00:05:42.530 behind contribution behind giving back to others.

00:05:42.700 --> 00:05:52.390 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: giving to society, giving it to things where we're never gonna see really anything back from it other than maybe a person's smile.

00:05:54.060 --> 00:05:56.599 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We do it, because inside

00:05:57.690 --> 00:05:58.380 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it

00:05:59.480 --> 00:06:04.989 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: helps us to feel good. not just good about ourselves.

00:06:05.820 --> 00:06:09.350 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: but just the act itself feels good.

00:06:09.920 --> 00:06:15.700 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now, why it makes us feel good is, is really a whole nother topic.

00:06:16.520 --> 00:06:29.489 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: You know that the chemical interactions in the brain and the the dopamine, the serotonin, and different things like that. And and why? That all you know causes that kind of physical response.

00:06:31.260 --> 00:06:32.639 But to me

00:06:33.740 --> 00:06:35.809 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it makes us feel good.

00:06:38.610 --> 00:06:43.380 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I believe, and this is purely my hallucination. Take it for what it's worth.

00:06:45.730 --> 00:06:56.430 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I believe it makes us feel good cause. Deep down in in our soul, deep down in, in our essence, in in the most

00:06:57.840 --> 00:07:01.310 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: core of of our beingness.

00:07:02.560 --> 00:07:04.759 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We know that we are all connected.

00:07:06.170 --> 00:07:14.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we know unconsciously, we know. on an energetic level, we know on a spiritual level, if you want to call it that.

00:07:16.460 --> 00:07:18.670 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But we are all connected.

00:07:19.200 --> 00:07:25.569 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Everything is interrelated that we're all part of one greater whole.

00:07:27.950 --> 00:07:35.700 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So when we contribute, when we do an act of service. when we

00:07:37.730 --> 00:07:43.499 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: offer something without any possibility of getting anything back.

00:07:44.760 --> 00:07:47.690 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we're actually giving back to ourselves.

00:07:49.330 --> 00:07:53.499 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: It feels good because we're honoring

00:07:53.650 --> 00:07:57.440 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that part of us that knows

00:07:58.900 --> 00:08:02.060 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that in whenever small

00:08:02.700 --> 00:08:04.550 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: little way

00:08:05.720 --> 00:08:06.740 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that we

00:08:07.110 --> 00:08:10.420 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: help another individual help, another being

00:08:10.830 --> 00:08:13.650 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: a plant, an animal, an insect doesn't matter

00:08:14.740 --> 00:08:23.080 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that we're actually helping ourselves. We're honoring ourselves. We're honoring that part of us that knows

00:08:24.820 --> 00:08:27.310 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: beyond the shadow of a doubt

00:08:28.400 --> 00:08:30.010 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that I am that.

00:08:34.070 --> 00:08:37.570 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And so charity and contribution.

00:08:42.020 --> 00:08:44.730 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: It's not about the other.

00:08:46.700 --> 00:08:48.880 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: because when we look at the

00:08:50.300 --> 00:08:59.660 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: person we're giving to as an other. and not as a brother as an other, and that as a part of ourselves, we're missing the point.

00:09:02.700 --> 00:09:11.019 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And sure lots of people contribute and give charity and and never consciously

00:09:12.180 --> 00:09:16.619 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: have that understanding. That's okay.

00:09:19.220 --> 00:09:22.540 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But what I'm talking about is on a deep.

00:09:22.820 --> 00:09:24.660 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: unconscious level

00:09:25.510 --> 00:09:28.039 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: on that level, that

00:09:29.090 --> 00:09:34.420 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it it that permeates all of life and all of existence.

00:09:37.300 --> 00:09:38.300 We know.

00:09:38.970 --> 00:09:40.060 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We know.

00:09:42.050 --> 00:09:48.280 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we know, that homeless person on the street. That's us.

00:09:49.410 --> 00:09:50.790 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We know that

00:09:51.670 --> 00:09:57.469 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: child in that that poor country that that doesn't have enough food to eat. That's us.

00:10:00.730 --> 00:10:11.480 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We know that when we make even a tiny difference in the life of another being. we're making a difference to ourselves.

00:10:14.090 --> 00:10:16.510 So the more we contribute.

00:10:18.370 --> 00:10:22.040 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it's as if the more we're saying to life.

00:10:23.810 --> 00:10:26.809 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: yes. that is me.

00:10:26.920 --> 00:10:32.920 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Yes, I wanna live. Yes, I wanna help and be helped.

00:10:37.130 --> 00:10:38.110 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And

00:10:38.550 --> 00:10:40.519 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: again that feeling

00:10:41.210 --> 00:10:45.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: might never get to the conscious level.

00:10:48.630 --> 00:10:55.809 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But of course. if you're one of my loyal listeners and you're listening to the show or you're listening to the podcast or the recording.

00:10:56.520 --> 00:10:58.410 Now, it's in your consciousness.

00:10:58.630 --> 00:11:10.020 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now, the next time you do something to help another person to contribute without any possibility of getting anything in return.

00:11:11.390 --> 00:11:13.520 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now, hmm!

00:11:14.120 --> 00:11:17.320 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I wonder will it feel a little different?

00:11:18.570 --> 00:11:24.660 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: III see loyal listener Patty, who tunes in every single week. I'm so appreciative of her.

00:11:25.820 --> 00:11:31.760 She and ours when they go out, and they they help to build houses with habitat for humanity.

00:11:32.800 --> 00:11:40.199 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: building houses for people who, you know, after they finish and move on, that may never see again in their life.

00:11:43.370 --> 00:11:47.030 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But I'm sure I'm certain

00:11:48.410 --> 00:11:52.940 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that that feeling in their hearts when they do that

00:11:54.130 --> 00:11:57.730 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it goes far beyond anything else.

00:11:59.130 --> 00:12:01.159 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And I just wonder.

00:12:02.610 --> 00:12:05.440 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I I'm just really curious.

00:12:07.180 --> 00:12:10.629 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: What if more people in this world

00:12:12.260 --> 00:12:13.780 focused on

00:12:14.290 --> 00:12:16.650 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: being more in contribution

00:12:18.300 --> 00:12:22.619 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and perhaps a little less concerned about achievement

00:12:23.060 --> 00:12:27.120 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: at making lots of money accumulating power.

00:12:28.800 --> 00:12:31.850 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I wonder what would happen to this world

00:12:33.770 --> 00:12:37.780 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: if we would just recognize the fact

00:12:39.860 --> 00:12:41.249 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that I am that

00:12:44.610 --> 00:12:46.390 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that person

00:12:48.070 --> 00:12:52.579 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: walk who needs help walking across the street, that that's us.

00:12:55.590 --> 00:13:00.349 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and that if someone asks us for help with not without knowing us.

00:13:01.560 --> 00:13:08.559 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: if we would just gladly help them and say, Of course.

00:13:12.060 --> 00:13:14.580 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: th there's an old expression that

00:13:16.550 --> 00:13:19.949 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: to whom much is given. Much is expected.

00:13:23.640 --> 00:13:27.060 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I don't think it's that much is expected

00:13:28.130 --> 00:13:36.759 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: by life, the universe by spirit. It's we expect more of ourselves

00:13:37.320 --> 00:13:47.919 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: when we learn to truly be grateful for all the abundance we have for the amazing life that we have, even when it's hard.

00:13:52.050 --> 00:14:02.040 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know, we we always have a tendency to judge like when life is hard, that it's not good. But at least we're alive. At least we know.

00:14:03.560 --> 00:14:16.760 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and it is my personal belief that even though things can be hard and difficult at times, life does not give us more than we can handle. it might feel like it at times.

00:14:19.100 --> 00:14:20.790 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: but actually we can.

00:14:23.180 --> 00:14:26.580 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and one of the surest ways

00:14:27.370 --> 00:14:31.479 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: to feel better. especially when life is hard

00:14:32.810 --> 00:14:35.509 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: is to contribute to someone else's life.

00:14:35.900 --> 00:14:40.449 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: to take our eyes off of ourselves and onto somebody else.

00:14:41.670 --> 00:14:44.009 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I'm I'm always reminded of that

00:14:45.040 --> 00:14:47.329 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: parable of

00:14:48.390 --> 00:14:53.830 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: The man who bemoaned the fact that he had no shoes until he met a man who had no feet.

00:14:59.620 --> 00:15:05.470 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Sure could things be better for us absolutely. Things can always get better for us.

00:15:07.500 --> 00:15:10.910 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and things could also be much, much, much worse.

00:15:13.730 --> 00:15:25.569 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But if you're listening to this show. if you have running, water, electricity, shelter. food. you're already doing better

00:15:25.870 --> 00:15:30.000 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: than a good majority of other people on this planet.

00:15:34.830 --> 00:15:35.720 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So

00:15:38.430 --> 00:15:42.099 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I hope there's something about this section of my book

00:15:42.580 --> 00:15:50.570 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that touches your heart that maybe gives you a slightly different perspective on contribution.

00:15:51.810 --> 00:15:56.379 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And if it motivates you to contribute a little more

00:15:56.630 --> 00:16:01.180 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: or differently. then I've more than done my job.

00:16:02.540 --> 00:16:12.199 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Okay, so that's my section from my book every day awakening the section is entitled, Contribution is about how we feel

00:16:12.370 --> 00:16:16.579 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: when we give back. And, by the way, I just wanna point out. it's giving back.

00:16:17.060 --> 00:16:20.089 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know, it's not giving. From what we don't have.

00:16:20.560 --> 00:16:29.530 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it's giving from a place of abundance it's giving from a place of. I have so much. I have more than enough to give back to someone.

00:16:30.100 --> 00:16:55.489 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and of course you can always find my book@www.everyday awakening book.com, which, as I mentioned, just takes you straight to the Amazon listing. But if you're like me and you love to support small independent bookstores. Just go in there and say, Hey, I'd love to get this book every day. Awakening by Sam Leibowitz. They can order it. 00:17:38.380 --> 00:17:42.480 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: in just a moment talking all about context.

00:20:39.980 --> 00:20:43.349 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: this week talking about context.

00:20:45.670 --> 00:20:50.229 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And I'd like to provide a little context for this topic of context

00:20:53.030 --> 00:20:58.449 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: because I had a conversation the other week with my wife about finances.

00:21:00.020 --> 00:21:11.000 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and our finances are not great, not terrible somewhere in between. maybe not as good as we would like them. be very honest and vulnerable right now.

00:21:14.380 --> 00:21:23.920 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and the conversation kind of came up about. Why is it that we've made so many mistakes in the past. We've had bad investments. We did this wrong. We did that wrong.

00:21:26.100 --> 00:21:39.319 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And and as we're talking and initially, I'm kind of buying into everything she's saying and buying into sort of the the concept of like, Oh, my God! You know there, there's something horribly wrong here!

00:21:42.930 --> 00:21:44.989 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And then I realized

00:21:47.470 --> 00:21:52.050 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that the conversation was a little extreme in one direction.

00:21:54.410 --> 00:21:56.450 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And I realized that

00:21:58.750 --> 00:22:04.099 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we're not. We're not looking at what we did in context to the time.

00:22:06.700 --> 00:22:13.820 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and that certain decisions we made, whether they were good or bad decisions is sort of BA besides the point.

00:22:14.870 --> 00:22:24.010 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But we made certain decisions at the time. like we invested stuff we invested in things that were a little more aggressive.

00:22:25.770 --> 00:22:29.290 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: higher potential of return, but higher risk.

00:22:31.540 --> 00:22:38.029 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And and some of those investments are frozen right now, like the company isn't out of business, but they're not

00:22:38.320 --> 00:22:45.139 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: giving the returns they're supposed to be doing can't get the money out, so it's kind of frozen there for the moment.

00:22:47.440 --> 00:22:48.480 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And

00:22:50.320 --> 00:22:58.610 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: so there was a lot of like, you know. Oh, look how we unconsciously sabotage ourselves financially.

00:22:59.690 --> 00:23:09.290 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And I'm like, yeah. But remember. we were thinking about having enough for retirement. We were looking at the fact that because of

00:23:09.410 --> 00:23:36.289 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know what happened in the past, and not having a lot of savings, that we wanted to be more aggressive and attempt to build up some more wealth. so that if we wanted to retire, or when we want to retire, that we would have enough money to do it, because neither me nor my wife work for a corporation. We don't have a pension, you know, it's really our own savings that that we need to rely on when we retire.

00:23:38.230 --> 00:23:43.239 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And it's kinda interesting, cause there are a lot of people in our situation as well.

00:23:44.480 --> 00:23:50.169 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and so we made some choices that were a little bit aggressive.

00:23:51.050 --> 00:23:57.290 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: but we did it for a reason like we didn't do it out of the blue for no reason at all.

00:23:57.900 --> 00:24:01.350 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We weren't just trying to throw money away.

00:24:03.350 --> 00:24:04.810 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we were saying, look.

00:24:07.090 --> 00:24:08.820 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: this might be a risk.

00:24:11.270 --> 00:24:16.060 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: but the reward, the potential reward was worth the risk.

00:24:19.940 --> 00:24:30.369 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know. Now we look at things, and because we've gotten burned, it's like, no, we need to be, you know, less risky. We need to be more secure.

00:24:30.410 --> 00:24:37.320 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And it's like, okay, I can understand the difference in mindset. I can understand the reason why we shifted.

00:24:37.820 --> 00:24:42.080 but without having had that experience.

00:24:42.230 --> 00:24:53.129 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Without that context we wouldn't come to that place of oh, let's just invest in something safe. you know, let's just get some basic

00:24:53.160 --> 00:25:03.010 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: interest and and not worry about building up so much, so quickly that we're willing to take sort of a longer term view of things.

00:25:06.110 --> 00:25:15.600 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: but again that. And and so when I brought it up, we kind of come down. We made we had a discussion, we made certain plans. We're gonna do certain things.

00:25:21.630 --> 00:25:25.229 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and it's worth noting. It's worth

00:25:25.420 --> 00:25:33.580 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: being aware of fact that when we make a choice, when we make a decision.

00:25:34.610 --> 00:25:48.489 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We're making a decision based on our experiences. Up until that time. Our mindset at that time. And what are we looking to accomplish at that time.

00:25:51.690 --> 00:25:55.609 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And as and and after that happens.

00:25:56.440 --> 00:26:03.500 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and time goes by, and then in the future we look back on it. We forget

00:26:04.600 --> 00:26:10.450 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we forget what it was like to be in that situation at that time.

00:26:10.600 --> 00:26:12.790 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: In the mindset we were then.

00:26:14.130 --> 00:26:15.909 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And that's the context.

00:26:17.120 --> 00:26:24.550 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: It's so easy to forget about the context with which we make decisions.

00:26:24.960 --> 00:26:32.590 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now, I'm not just talking about as individuals. how we make decisions in our individual life.

00:26:33.790 --> 00:26:36.670 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I'm also talking about society.

00:26:39.620 --> 00:26:42.229 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So often we look at

00:26:42.420 --> 00:26:49.819 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: the way things were in the past. We look at history. and were kind of horrified the way things were.

00:26:49.840 --> 00:26:59.490 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and and the way people acted and and what was acceptable. Back then, that that is completely unacceptable today.

00:27:00.980 --> 00:27:05.539 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And when we do that. we're not taking it in context.

00:27:07.910 --> 00:27:12.699 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: because when you look at anything in the past.

00:27:13.350 --> 00:27:15.280 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Whatever somebody wrote.

00:27:15.480 --> 00:27:26.210 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: whatever somebody did, it was always in context of the way society was at that time the way they were at the time.

00:27:27.830 --> 00:27:34.360 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Indeed, I kind of look at context as as there are like a couple of different levels of context.

00:27:35.140 --> 00:27:39.839 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: First, it's about the context of the individual and where they were in their life.

00:27:40.450 --> 00:27:49.370 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Second, it's their and community context. You know how they were brought up, what were things like at the time.

00:27:50.470 --> 00:28:03.730 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and and that's a subset of what was the societal context. And kinda in between there you can say their state, their country. But it's sort of like the individual, the family society.

00:28:06.390 --> 00:28:16.570 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And then there's an even deeper context. And it's a context we actually don't see. And it's a context. We don't even really know about

00:28:17.870 --> 00:28:20.420 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: in that deeper context.

00:28:21.400 --> 00:28:27.780 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: actually opens us up to things being much

00:28:28.460 --> 00:28:32.469 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant:  different than we expect.

00:28:35.430 --> 00:28:40.090 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So so let's first talk about the individual context.

00:28:42.890 --> 00:28:51.939 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I often say to my coaching clients and to people that I work with. that we create our life. and we absolutely do.

00:28:52.790 --> 00:28:57.750 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We create our life through all of the decisions we make

00:28:57.760 --> 00:29:05.490 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: through the stories we make up about things, through the responses and the reactions that we live life in.

00:29:07.860 --> 00:29:09.050 When we

00:29:10.360 --> 00:29:16.409 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: pick what college? If you go to college, you know it. But but let's just say

00:29:16.610 --> 00:29:26.099 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you went to college. What college did you go to? Why did you go to that college? Well, that choice was made in a certain context.

00:29:28.260 --> 00:29:34.619 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: For instance, the first college I went to I went to 2 colleges. The first college I went to

00:29:35.830 --> 00:29:39.220 actually didn't really want to go to that college.

00:29:41.570 --> 00:29:43.240 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So why did I go there?

00:29:44.220 --> 00:29:48.129 Well, I went there because my Mom, who was a schoolteacher

00:29:48.450 --> 00:29:54.540 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: couple of the other women she taught elementary school with their husbands, were professors at this college.

00:29:55.640 --> 00:30:05.720 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and I received a letter from this college the day I was actually going to send my acceptance to a different college. saying that

00:30:05.940 --> 00:30:20.979 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: they were giving me a partial scholarship partial student loan, so that my tuition was taken care of for the first year, and all I we had to pay for was room and board, cause I had to live.

00:30:22.680 --> 00:30:28.760 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: th then that all I had to worry about was was paying for room board being in the dorm.

00:30:31.890 --> 00:30:37.879 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and so I like took a pause. cause I'm like, Oh.

00:30:39.140 --> 00:30:43.869 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know, I didn't get anything like that from the other college I was gonna go to. I wanted to go to.

00:30:45.850 --> 00:30:48.360 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I kind of knew

00:30:49.110 --> 00:31:04.090 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: the way my mom was that if I didn't take this offer that for a long, long time I would be hearing from her. Oh, I can't believe you turned down the scholarship. Oh, I can't believe you didn't accept it and go to that school

00:31:06.380 --> 00:31:21.240 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: now. That might not be a strong enough reason for a lot of people to make a decision. And it wasn't the only reason I did actually go to a high school teacher, the only one who I really respected and talked to him about it. He says, Oh, yeah, go to that school. It's a much better school.

00:31:21.510 --> 00:31:28.940 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: which. again, depending on the context, it either was or wasn't. I'm not sure I agreed with that assessment now.

00:31:29.670 --> 00:31:33.170 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant:  but for me, at the time

00:31:34.880 --> 00:31:36.160 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it was important.

00:31:37.730 --> 00:31:39.780 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And so in that context

00:31:39.970 --> 00:31:47.749 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I made the choice to go to the college that I knew my mom wanted me to go to, not the one I really wanted to go to.

00:31:48.550 --> 00:32:04.269 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and that took my life in a whole different direction, for a whole variety of reasons that had actually very little to do with education or schooling, and much more to do with the people that I met there. So sometimes we make a decision for the wrong reason.

00:32:04.500 --> 00:32:08.139 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and it takes us in a different direction.

00:32:08.260 --> 00:32:10.689 Not for the reason we think

00:32:11.830 --> 00:32:23.750 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: alright. So I'm gonna take a break. And when we come back I'm gonna talk a little bit more about this idea of context. I'm gonna talk about, what is that deeper context

00:32:24.980 --> 00:32:37.219 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that's important to keep in mind. And of course, please post your questions on the live streams on the Youtube live stream. The Facebook Live Stream. Let me know how

00:32:37.230 --> 00:32:43.149 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: context is or isn't important to you, or has or hasn't been important to you.

00:32:43.390 --> 00:32:47.469 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and I will get to your comments when we come back.

00:32:52.100 --> 00:33:02.429 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We do this every Thursday 12 noon to one Pm. Eastern, right here on Talkradio, dot Nyc. And we will be right back in just a moment.

00:35:07.040 --> 00:35:18.049 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So we're talking about context today. And and the story I told you about which college, I decided to go to that was to show you sort of the context

00:35:18.520 --> 00:35:24.710 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: individually, where I was and also familiar, familiar. I don't know

00:35:24.900 --> 00:35:26.710 in my family

00:35:26.730 --> 00:35:31.720 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: because my my family, my mom, paid a big part in that decision.

00:35:34.190 --> 00:35:35.800 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But you see, even going

00:35:36.230 --> 00:35:43.880 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: to college needs to be taken in context because I was dro brought up in a middle class, Jewish family in the Bronx.

00:35:44.140 --> 00:35:51.440 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and like not going to college, was like unheard, not unheard of, but was like.

00:35:51.560 --> 00:35:57.420 so frowned upon. It was like, You're a complete dummy if you don't go to college.

00:35:58.080 --> 00:36:02.319 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So there's also that kind of ethnic

00:36:02.680 --> 00:36:16.489 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: sort of context as well. whereas there are a lot of people who come from families, families. we're going to. College isn't a big deal, or or maybe no one before heads gone to college.

00:36:17.040 --> 00:36:17.990 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So

00:36:18.470 --> 00:36:21.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that context is also important

00:36:23.870 --> 00:36:41.819 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and the context of society at large right? How good a life do you have in the United States. If you don't go to college now, some people will argue that. Yes, there are a lot of college dropouts, or people who never go to college who become millionaires and have a great life.

00:36:44.560 --> 00:36:48.679 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But what percentage of people who don't go to college

00:36:48.780 --> 00:36:54.719 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: have a great life versus the percentage of people who go to college and have a better life.

00:36:55.280 --> 00:36:57.300 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Right? It's a numbers game.

00:36:58.670 --> 00:37:01.190 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So there's all of that context.

00:37:03.340 --> 00:37:09.410 And there is a much deeper context in this much deeper context.

00:37:09.500 --> 00:37:22.830 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And this is one where it's the context, we don't see, we don't know. It's a context that we can't really perceive. And when you understand this context.

00:37:24.520 --> 00:37:37.990 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: then you really get how we truly have to trust that what is happening or what has happened is really for the best, because we don't know

00:37:38.420 --> 00:37:42.850 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: in that deeper context was highlighted to me.

00:37:43.800 --> 00:37:51.820 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant:  back when we we took over the business from the former owner and and

00:37:52.130 --> 00:38:03.709 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: my loyal listeners know. I've referred to Giorgio many times in the past who was the one who founded the radio station, and he also had an acupuncture practice, and he was a Buddhist.

00:38:04.200 --> 00:38:15.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and and the reason why I bought it from him was because he had decided to become a Buddhist monk, a Terravadan Buddhist monk, and and he was getting rid of all his worldly possessions to go into the monkhood.

00:38:17.690 --> 00:38:28.319 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And so, during the transition period, we brought in an acupuncturist Tim, for him to train in his particular methodology, and he studied under this grand master in Hong Kong.

00:38:29.490 --> 00:38:42.930 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and but he also applied his his Buddhist principles and Buddhist philosophy to acupuncture. and I remember hearing him say to Tim one day that we don't cure anybody of anything.

00:38:43.770 --> 00:38:50.380 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: he said, we may be able to help people's bodies come back into homeostasis.

00:38:51.230 --> 00:39:03.619 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But he said you might be working with someone with a heart condition, cancer, some other disease. and that disease might go into remission that might be better from from coming to you as an acupuncturist.

00:39:04.160 --> 00:39:09.410 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And then the next day they could be crossing the street and get hit by a runaway car or a bus.

00:39:11.610 --> 00:39:14.779 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: because that was their Kama Vipaka.

00:39:15.340 --> 00:39:17.950 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: That was their spiritual karma.

00:39:19.150 --> 00:39:25.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And we don't know what an individual's soul's spiritual Karma is.

00:39:27.800 --> 00:39:31.009 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now look, this does presuppose

00:39:31.280 --> 00:39:32.690 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: reincarnation.

00:39:33.640 --> 00:39:49.039 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And II happen to believe in reincarnation. Ever since I first heard the concept back. When I was in high school. I had no context for it at the time. Just someone explained it to me. And I thought, Wow, like that makes a lot of sense.

00:39:52.020 --> 00:39:59.650 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and if you don't believe in reincarnation, maybe this won't resonate with you. But even if you don't believe in re in reincarnation.

00:40:00.040 --> 00:40:09.870 still, the idea of the soul's journey. Well, you have to believe in a soul. and for those of you who don't believe in the soul, I will just one remind you

00:40:10.690 --> 00:40:21.550 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that last year's Nobel Prize winners in physics won the Nobel Prize for proving that reality is not locally real. that until

00:40:21.940 --> 00:40:35.470 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: the wave functions that are the energy that make up reality are observed and collapse down into a particle and form. Quote unquote, something real. It's all potentiality.

00:40:36.260 --> 00:40:42.460 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: This universe, on its fundamental level, is energetic. not physical.

00:40:45.180 --> 00:40:48.770 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So to me, that means that

00:40:49.010 --> 00:40:52.789 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: us, as individuals. we are not

00:40:54.360 --> 00:40:58.170 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: just this flesh and blood and bone.

00:40:59.320 --> 00:41:05.349 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that there is an energetic component to us, a spirit, a soul, something that

00:41:05.430 --> 00:41:09.230 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: precedes and survives our death.

00:41:12.610 --> 00:41:22.660 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now, whether this soul comes back into physical form over and over again. Well. that we'll find out when we die. However.

00:41:25.030 --> 00:41:36.530 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I personally believe in reincarnation. It makes much more sense to me than just the idea that we only get one shot at getting things right, that it's more an evolution over

00:41:36.690 --> 00:41:38.880 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: billions of years.

00:41:41.520 --> 00:41:43.320 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And this is the context

00:41:43.510 --> 00:41:46.249 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I believe we never see.

00:41:49.540 --> 00:41:51.519 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: we don't know

00:41:51.710 --> 00:41:56.489 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: where a person's soul is in its evolution.

00:41:57.400 --> 00:41:58.909 We don't know.

00:41:59.000 --> 00:42:01.869 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: What did they experience in the past life?

00:42:02.880 --> 00:42:04.529 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: What did they do?

00:42:04.560 --> 00:42:06.549 Good, bad, or otherwise.

00:42:08.420 --> 00:42:19.190 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know, were they a bigot in the past life. And so this life they're they're experiencing racism against them because

00:42:19.370 --> 00:42:23.950 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: their their soul is learning the lesson that, hey? We're all connected.

00:42:26.510 --> 00:42:38.989 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And do we know that when a soul comes into being. you know, what lesson is it here? For, you know some people talk about the idea of spiritual contracts.

00:42:40.710 --> 00:42:43.449 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and that what are we here to fulfill?

00:42:45.220 --> 00:42:58.429 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: We don't know. We don't know. And you see that context. it's such an important context. but it's one that's beyond our perception.

00:42:59.760 --> 00:43:00.730 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Now.

00:43:01.730 --> 00:43:08.730 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I do believe that there are certain people out there rare individuals who are able to see a person's

00:43:10.680 --> 00:43:19.680 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: spiritual background and can help with understanding why we're here experiencing this life the way we're experiencing it.

00:43:21.220 --> 00:43:28.090 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But for most of us. We don't have access to that kind of information unless we find an individual like that.

00:43:28.300 --> 00:43:35.020 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So what do we do with this context of this deeper spiritual path.

00:43:39.650 --> 00:43:43.519 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And this is where for me.

00:43:44.740 --> 00:43:49.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it it really kind of comes down to the story we want to make about life.

00:43:53.900 --> 00:44:00.210 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And it's kind of like. if life is perfect to big, if very big, if

00:44:02.160 --> 00:44:04.660 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: everything in life is perfect.

00:44:05.550 --> 00:44:08.889 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and that even the greatest tragedies

00:44:09.860 --> 00:44:13.589 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: are perfect. And I'm not saying they're not tragedies just because they're perfect.

00:44:15.240 --> 00:44:27.479 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: You know. A school bus full of kids, you know, goes off a cliff and and and they all die. That's a tragedy that's an emotional physical tragedy.

00:44:30.610 --> 00:44:40.380 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: but spiritually. who knows? What do those young souls need to learn by experiencing that? I don't know. I can't judge.

00:44:43.010 --> 00:44:46.160 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And this is why, having faith

00:44:48.090 --> 00:44:53.030 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that that life is taking us exactly where we need to go.

00:44:54.330 --> 00:44:58.330 This is why faith is such an important important component

00:44:59.020 --> 00:45:00.770 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: in life. I believe

00:45:02.010 --> 00:45:13.839 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I'm not talking faith in a specific dogma or belief or faith in other people. It's faith in life, it's faith in the universe.

00:45:16.370 --> 00:45:21.010 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and and that faith does not mean that everything goes perfectly all the time.

00:45:22.100 --> 00:45:30.350 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Maybe our soul needs to experience some of those times when things aren't perfect when things are a challenge

00:45:30.370 --> 00:45:32.679 that that's what we need to grow

00:45:32.820 --> 00:45:33.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: on honor.

00:45:34.690 --> 00:45:37.899 fundamental level, not on a superficial level.

00:45:40.620 --> 00:45:47.600 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So this is why I say, like this is in some ways the most important context.

00:45:48.450 --> 00:45:51.349 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and it's the one we have the least access to.

00:45:54.150 --> 00:45:59.930 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So it's time for me to take my last break of the show when we come back.

00:46:00.050 --> 00:46:08.259 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Let's talk about what do we do with this deeper understanding of context like, how is this gonna really affect

00:46:08.380 --> 00:46:10.380 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: the rest of our lives.

00:46:10.670 --> 00:46:22.179 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And believe me, I believe wholeheartedly, that if you're here today listening tuning in to this show whether it's the recording, the podcast or the live show

00:46:22.510 --> 00:46:35.000 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that you're hearing this for a reason. and that this message is for you. Specifically. alright. we're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back.

00:46:35.270 --> 00:46:38.880 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Just you and me talking all about context.

00:48:46.490 --> 00:48:50.500 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: okay, we're talking all about context, this show

00:48:51.530 --> 00:48:59.750 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and taking things in context. And I've talked about the different levels of context. So what do we do with this. How does this

00:49:00.400 --> 00:49:08.060 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: understanding this? This may be deeper appreciation for context. How does this affect the rest of our life?

00:49:08.880 --> 00:49:16.680 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Well, it's actually a very practical thing. Because in our interactions with people.

00:49:18.490 --> 00:49:22.459 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: sometimes, we don't understand why people are the way they are.

00:49:23.770 --> 00:49:26.470 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: why they do the things that they do.

00:49:27.700 --> 00:49:31.929 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So that's where context comes into play.

00:49:38.550 --> 00:49:42.170 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: When somebody does something that

00:49:43.890 --> 00:49:49.880 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: is unexpected or is challenging or hurts our feelings.

00:49:53.960 --> 00:49:57.700 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: It helpful to look at the context.

00:50:00.320 --> 00:50:06.259 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: What was going on in their life at the time. How much do you know about the person.

00:50:06.610 --> 00:50:19.650 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: you know? Maybe you're working in an office, and one day your boss comes in and they're angry. They're upset. They give you a hard time about stuff. And you're thinking like, what did I do? I didn't do anything.

00:50:21.360 --> 00:50:25.060 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Maybe it wasn't about you. Maybe it wasn't about you at all.

00:50:25.660 --> 00:50:26.950 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And maybe

00:50:28.070 --> 00:50:35.339 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: if you can cultivate patience and cultivate understanding

00:50:37.130 --> 00:50:42.759 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that you find out later in the day or the next day, or the next week.

00:50:43.280 --> 00:50:45.000 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: That may be your boss

00:50:45.610 --> 00:50:46.710 found out

00:50:47.090 --> 00:50:52.619 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: they have a disease, or maybe their wife is sick, or their husband or their child.

00:50:54.550 --> 00:50:57.679 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and that may be something else is going on in their life.

00:51:00.950 --> 00:51:03.289 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So if we look to

00:51:03.470 --> 00:51:12.119 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: understand the context of what's going on better, then we can ask questions instead of jumping to make a judgment.

00:51:14.360 --> 00:51:18.310 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Somebody yells at you out of the blue for no reason at all

00:51:20.450 --> 00:51:22.170 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: find out the context.

00:51:23.200 --> 00:51:27.240 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: hey, what's going on? Why are you upset

00:51:28.950 --> 00:51:30.460 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and really listen.

00:51:30.930 --> 00:51:37.489 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and listen, not just to what they say, but listen to what they don't say that can be equally revealing.

00:51:42.630 --> 00:51:45.599 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: There's so many situations

00:51:46.220 --> 00:51:52.649 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: dealing with people of a different ethnicity, different race, different color, I mean. The idea of race, I know is made up.

00:51:52.830 --> 00:51:57.069 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But someone comes from a different country, has different customs.

00:51:58.290 --> 00:52:01.590 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: What's the context you need to be aware of?

00:52:05.890 --> 00:52:08.800 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I remember a long time ago.

00:52:09.380 --> 00:52:12.240 Somebody once was highlighting

00:52:12.610 --> 00:52:16.669 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant:  the difference in culture

00:52:16.730 --> 00:52:23.340 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: of like different cultures in, in, in a business context, they they were doing a presentation.

00:52:23.410 --> 00:52:33.760 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And and there was a it, some kind of a a development team, a a computer development. And like they, they brought together developers

00:52:33.770 --> 00:52:36.510 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: from the United States, from India and from China.

00:52:38.420 --> 00:52:39.710 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and

00:52:40.810 --> 00:52:51.690 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: they were having a a bit of a challenge communicating and and and and getting everyone to be on board with certain deadlines and certain time projections.

00:52:52.420 --> 00:53:01.600 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And so the facilitator asked them. each person, like one person representing each group to get up and draw

00:53:02.050 --> 00:53:05.020 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: a symbolic representation of time for them.

00:53:06.190 --> 00:53:17.219 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And so someone from the American team gets up. They they draw on the whiteboard just a straight line with a marker, and there's like a start point and endpoint, and they're like, that's time to me.

00:53:20.600 --> 00:53:34.010 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And the Chinese person gets up and draws it as a circle. cause they just see it as cyclical and revolving. But that's the way time was for them.

00:53:35.050 --> 00:53:37.979 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And then someone from the the Indian

00:53:38.070 --> 00:53:42.809 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: group got up there, and they drew the representation of time as a spiral.

00:53:46.160 --> 00:53:49.429 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: And that's such a basic concept time.

00:53:50.080 --> 00:53:53.529 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: But look how in cultural context.

00:53:54.230 --> 00:53:56.000 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it's so different.

00:53:59.990 --> 00:54:15.189 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So when we're dealing with challenges. When we're dealing with people come from a different perspective than us. It's very, very helpful to get the context.

00:54:18.160 --> 00:54:40.919 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: You talk to a person of color. and they're more fearful of the police. and you don't understand why. Ask them and get their experience. I mean the the show that precedes mine on here. Dismantling race system. Reverend Dr. Tlc. She she said. So many examples of why, that's the case, and how

00:54:40.930 --> 00:54:51.140 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: the the lived experience of a person of color is so different from the lived experience of people who are white or Caucasian.

00:54:55.360 --> 00:55:01.970 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: When we understand that we don't truly understand what's going on until we know the context.

00:55:03.670 --> 00:55:14.519 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: it helps in so many different ways, so many different ways. It helps with our relationships, with friends, with colleagues, with family.

00:55:15.480 --> 00:55:24.569 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: You're having a hard time with your parents. Do you know the context in which they were brought up? In what was their relationship like with their parents and their grandparents

00:55:24.590 --> 00:55:32.120 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: with their community when they were growing up. and I don't care how young or old you are. It's so true.

00:55:33.710 --> 00:55:43.019 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and even the context of you have a friend who was brought up in the Midwest, and you were brought up in California or New York. What's the difference in context? There?

00:55:45.760 --> 00:55:58.080 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: I was just in in Colorado for 3 weeks. and there's a very different context in Colorado from New York City. Self-reliance is so highly valued there.

00:55:59.470 --> 00:56:00.750 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: Nature.

00:56:04.710 --> 00:56:10.900 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: when we understand that we don't always know the context for something

00:56:12.120 --> 00:56:17.960 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: that then, when we understand that the need to seek out context.

00:56:19.100 --> 00:56:22.840 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: then that can help us tremendously

00:56:24.760 --> 00:56:31.540 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: in greater understanding in a greater ability to make the best of a situation.

00:56:33.350 --> 00:56:38.410 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: So this is why I say context is the key.

00:56:38.760 --> 00:56:43.779 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and is one, not the only, but one of the most important things

00:56:44.050 --> 00:56:46.949 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: to understand in any given situation.

00:56:48.510 --> 00:56:52.390 So I appreciate Patty. Loyal listener, she says.

00:56:52.970 --> 00:56:56.049 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: looking up context is in an

00:56:56.120 --> 00:57:01.359 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: is an eye opener puts meaning in into the message.

00:57:02.030 --> 00:57:05.529 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: and I'd love to hear from you my loyal listeners.

00:57:06.840 --> 00:57:13.499 Sam Liebowitz | The Conscious Consultant: This show been valuable to you. This idea of context exploring context. Was it helpful? In some way?
