This week, on The Conscious Consultant Hour, Sam welcomes Co-Authors Mark Alyn & Servet Hasan.
Growing Old Sucks! We’ve all said it. Sure, there are some bad things about getting older, but the good things far outweigh the bad. As we age, we gain experience and wisdom (at least some of us do), we mellow and ripen (some of us smell like old cheese too) and we have freedoms that we never had while we were young.
Talking with people is what Mark Alyn is all about. He is super nosey, which has helped him become an award-winning talk show host and producer. With more than 30,000 interviews spanning at least 10 years, he has chatted with business leaders, health pros, politicians and people on the street. He has anchored local news, reported in the field and hosted a movie trivia program. As a former restaurant and food critic, he never gets invited to dinner.
Servet Hasan is the award-winning author of Life in Transition, An Intuitive Path to New Beginnings, as well as The Intuitive Heart of Romance and Tune Him In, Turn Him On (all published by Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd). A student of the mystic masters of the Far East, Hasan is also a renowned motivational speaker who inspires others through her television and radio appearances, live seminars, and workshops. Born in Pakistan, she is also a citizen of England, Canada and the United States. She considers herself a spiritual ambassador of the world.

Sam shares his two quotes of the day. One, a quote from the universe. The other, from Abraham. Both powerful quotes that are meant to inspire listeners and add value into their life. Not letting the fear of failure interfere with one’s purpose in life. Sam uses his book, Everyday Awakening, as an example of a tie when he didn’t let the “what if’s” interfere with his process. When you quiet the negative voices in your head, great things can happen.
Sam introduces his guests, Mark Alyn and Servet Hasan! Together they begin to explain the inspiration behind their new book, “Growing Old Sucks But It Doesn’t Have To” and talk about why they felt it was important to have both a male and female perspective. They say they feel it’s important to know that change comes from within and not fighting who we’re becoming. Servet also explains why she is against the term “anti-aging” because if we aren’t aging - we’re dead.
Mark talks how the times have changed, what was acceptable at an old age back in his day opposed to now. Servet talks how women feel as they age and the unfair idea that men get better as they age and women appear worse. For example, gray hair on a man tends to make him look “distinguished” while gray hair on a woman makes her look the opposite. They also touch on how to make the most of your life by being the best friend, parent, coworker, neighbor, you can be.
Sam asks Mark to give advice to people who are starting to feel themselves aging and need a pep-talk on ways to stay energized in life. His advice involves exciting changes like having sex in the kitchen, cooking a new meal you’ve been wanting to try, going on an adventure. Servet’s advice involves keeping up with medical checkups, making exercise a priority, finding hobbies you love, and healthy doses of red wine! These are just some practices and more that can be found in their book.

00:03:14.340 --> 00:03:23.550 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Has been talking about doing a podcast and doesn't know where to get started, great person to connect with me. And what I'm finding also a lot. It's really interesting.
00:03:24.090 --> 00:03:30.150 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Like a lot of people who are now pivoted their business online because of everything that's happened with the pandemic.
00:03:30.510 --> 00:03:38.580 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: They now realize that you know they need. They want to get a little more exposure online now their business. It's online. Like, that's where the audience is.
00:03:39.030 --> 00:03:57.900 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Great people for me to talk to. I've a lot of people coming to me who are basically people pivoted their business online and now they realize the value of something like having a show like this, which you can repackage and repurpose and reuse to connect with your audience. So
00:03:59.430 --> 00:04:03.210 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I just wanted to throw that out there and to let people know about that.
00:04:05.580 --> 00:04:20.940 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Okay, so let's get started with our quotes of the day from the universe in from Abraham. Let's see what they have in store for us today. All right, who is a long one from the universe. Let's see what the universe has in store for us.
00:04:23.550 --> 00:04:31.380 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Don't say a word and off with the lights now is as good a time as any to watch. It's a Wonderful Life.
00:04:32.220 --> 00:04:49.620 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: No, no, no, not the one with Jimmy Stewart. The other one, you know, starring you. It's the best a totally underdog goose bump come from behind kind of adventure and what an ending. Whoo.
00:04:50.220 --> 00:04:59.040 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I especially love the part where you in spite of all evidence to the contrary. Finally, declare enough is enough.
00:04:59.880 --> 00:05:04.890 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: actually far more colorful language is used because we don't have a rating system here.
00:05:05.430 --> 00:05:18.990 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And you begin visualizing putting up dream photos on the computer refrigerator and mirrors and start performing simple acts of faith as if your dreams have already come true.
00:05:19.590 --> 00:05:30.240 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Every single blooming day the transformation that follows really pushes the envelope on believability except of course it's a true story.
00:05:30.900 --> 00:05:48.450 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: It's also a great psyched up watch for new souls. You know, before their first big plunge. Definitely. Two thumbs up to Holly. Whoa, the universe. We love our quotes from Mike Dooley in the universe.
00:05:49.620 --> 00:05:59.400 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I think reminding us how her own story is the greatest adventure that we are living
00:06:00.510 --> 00:06:01.200 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And that
00:06:02.580 --> 00:06:24.780 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: When we look at life as this great adventure has this juicy tale of magic unfolding before our very own eyes that you know life starts to begin to be a little more fun that we can actually play with it a little bit more and
00:06:26.100 --> 00:06:27.360 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: We can actually
00:06:28.440 --> 00:06:43.800 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Begin to do some incredible things always reminding us to visualize to set our intentions to dream big, huge dreams and start acting as if
00:06:45.390 --> 00:06:48.690 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Beyond all possibility beyond our imagination.
00:06:49.830 --> 00:07:10.200 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Beyond what reality tells us is true when we start acting as if those dreams are reality. Wow, what a. What a story will be able to tell one day. Hmm. Awesome. A two thumbs up quote of the day from the universe. Alright, let's see what Abraham has in store for us today.
00:07:12.210 --> 00:07:32.550 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: A bunch of weak people even in numbers aren't strong get a whole bunch of confused people together and see how much clarity comes out of it. In other words, you can't you just can't add one more confused person to the pot and expect to get any more clarity.
00:07:33.810 --> 00:07:50.490 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: One standing outside of the confused group who is clear, is more powerful than a million who are confused Abraham. Hmm, interesting quote from Abraham. One night I don't think I've seen before.
00:07:51.930 --> 00:08:00.210 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: really talking about the power of clarity and and really emphasizing how
00:08:02.070 --> 00:08:03.750 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: If we are clear.
00:08:05.160 --> 00:08:14.310 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: About our intentions about what our focuses about our dreams hopes and desires.
00:08:15.600 --> 00:08:28.290 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That when we're really, really clear on it, it does not matter how many people there are around us who are confused, who don't know what they're doing, we're just kind of bopping around and time and space.
00:08:30.360 --> 00:08:35.100 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That our clarity is far more powerful.
00:08:36.180 --> 00:08:39.030 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Than other people's lack of clarity.
00:08:41.370 --> 00:08:48.630 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And I believe Abraham is also trying to make the message that it's the more tuned in, where you are.
00:08:50.100 --> 00:08:52.980 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That by being certain
00:08:54.240 --> 00:08:56.400 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: On what and who we are.
00:08:57.990 --> 00:09:10.080 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That then it in a way, kind of overrides whatever kind of energy might be around us, the negativity of people who are just talking all doom and gloom, but the
00:09:10.920 --> 00:09:29.220 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: People who are are divided in their own life and divided with others, that the more clear. We are about ourselves about being whole being empowered being just turned on to living life.
00:09:30.450 --> 00:09:38.190 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: The more of a force of nature. We are, the more we can come into this world and really affect things in a positive way.
00:09:39.480 --> 00:09:42.000 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And that how we're not really
00:09:44.610 --> 00:09:49.080 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: at the whim of nature that we're not
00:09:51.330 --> 00:10:04.740 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: At the mercy of all the things we see happening around us. But indeed, the more clarity, we have within ourself and the more clear we are with how we respond
00:10:05.220 --> 00:10:17.910 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: To what's going on around us that that clarity gives us a strength and a power that goes far beyond whatever confusion might be around us.
00:10:18.960 --> 00:10:29.160 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And that it's more about how we choose to respond to any given situation, not the situation itself.
00:10:31.200 --> 00:10:46.350 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Many of my loyal listeners have heard me say this over and over again, we may not have control over the outside world, but we have 100% control of what's going on within us and it's our choice.
00:10:47.820 --> 00:10:57.210 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: It's our power to choose how we respond to what's going on and how we decide to show up in the world.
00:10:58.980 --> 00:11:10.440 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Does not matter what anybody else thinks says or does it doesn't matter how many other people think say or do whatever they're going to do.
00:11:11.280 --> 00:11:22.710 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: When we stand in our authenticity. We are in alignment with what we know to be true for ourselves in our heart in our mind in our spirits in our body.
00:11:24.450 --> 00:11:33.510 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That presence is more powerful than any other influence in our life.
00:11:35.520 --> 00:11:52.200 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Now look, is this to say that other people's energy and how other people are treating us doesn't affect us in some way. Of course of course we're human beings. We're giant antennas that are receiving this input from all around us all the time.
00:11:54.300 --> 00:11:59.760 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yet, the more awareness, we bring to what it is we are receiving
00:12:01.290 --> 00:12:09.480 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And the more awareness, we bring to whether that is in alignment with what we want to create in life or not.
00:12:10.740 --> 00:12:25.260 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Then we have the power to really decide I know I'm not feeling so hot right now because all this stuff going on. But this is not what I choose to focus on in this moment.
00:12:25.920 --> 00:12:36.990 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And this is not what really serves me in this moment. So I'm going to choose to focus on what we can do and what I can do in the moment.
00:12:38.730 --> 00:12:44.520 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And for those of you who have heard me talk about my book and the genesis of everyday awakening, you know,
00:12:45.240 --> 00:13:05.550 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I made I drew a line in the sand and put a stake in the ground when when the lockdown happened back in March and I said to myself, I am not going to live into the fear that I see all around me. I'm going to invest in something that I feel will serve others and serve myself as well.
00:13:06.690 --> 00:13:21.420 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And so, you know, I started working on the book with my editor, the end of March, we finished in August we came out with it in November and the response that I'm receiving from people tells me I made the right decision.
00:13:22.710 --> 00:13:33.000 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And that yeah I could have been, like, oh my god, I don't know where all this is going. The future is so uncertain. I don't know if it's a smart move to to do this right now or not, but no.
00:13:34.110 --> 00:13:47.490 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: No, bye bye bye being clear by being strong and certain on where I wanted to go. I was able to create something in the midst of all this craziness.
00:13:48.750 --> 00:13:54.060 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That many, many people have told me is adding so much value to their life so
00:13:55.320 --> 00:14:15.510 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Two wonderful excellent powerful quotes from the universe and from Abraham, and I think, you know, maybe not so in apropos for who our guests are today who I will bring on after this commercial break. 00:17:12.570 --> 00:17:23.910 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Become an award winning talk show host and producer, with more than 30,000 interviews. Wow, spanning at least 10 years he has chatted with business leaders health pros politicians.
00:17:24.270 --> 00:17:36.060 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And people on the street. He is anchored Local News reported in the field on it. No, you were a local news anchor reported in the field and hosted a movie a trivia program as a former restaurant and food critic.
00:17:36.630 --> 00:17:47.910 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: He somehow manages never to get invited to dinner. I don't know. Mark, and we've got to do something about that. And as well. We also have with us, sir, vet Hassan

00:18:01.860 --> 00:18:13.890 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: A student of the mystic masters of the Far East Hassan is and also a renowned motivational speaker who inspires others through her TV and radio appearances live seminars and workshops
00:18:14.250 --> 00:18:27.600 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Born in Pakistan. She's also a citizen of England, Canada and the US and she considers herself a spiritual ambassador of the world and they are both the CO authors of the new book growing old sucks.

00:18:41.370 --> 00:18:48.960 Mark Alyn: Why did me by the way to be on on talk radio dot New York about three years ago.
00:18:49.260 --> 00:18:50.880 Mark Alyn: So we finally got our act together.
00:18:51.240 --> 00:18:51.510 Yeah.
00:18:53.010 --> 00:19:06.780 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yeah, kinda kind of happens that way. Mark and I met out in Oceanside, California at a deep dive for the evolutionary Business Council so you know. He's one of those guys yeah example.
00:19:07.680 --> 00:19:18.630 Mark Alyn: Tell you at the end of our, our chat because Sam and I and two other people were roomies I'll let you know Sam snored and kept us awake.
00:19:23.400 --> 00:19:24.330 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I may have to turn off.
00:19:24.360 --> 00:19:25.710 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Your mic before that happened.
00:19:25.710 --> 00:19:26.520 I
00:19:27.720 --> 00:19:32.100 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I'm so, so let me ask you, Mark.
00:19:33.210 --> 00:19:43.980 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: What was and then serve, and I'm going to ask you the same question. What made you decide to write a book about growing old.
00:19:45.270 --> 00:19:45.930 Mark Alyn: I am
00:19:46.590 --> 00:19:49.080 Mark Alyn: I don't believe in growing old, you know,
00:19:50.070 --> 00:19:52.800 Mark Alyn: Why, yeah, I'm sorry, say that again, Sam.
00:19:52.890 --> 00:19:54.660 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I said, Neither do I know
00:19:54.870 --> 00:19:59.370 Mark Alyn: Right. Well, I know you're a big, big kid. Anyway, and taller than I am.
00:19:59.670 --> 00:20:12.990 Mark Alyn: But I digress. I had this idea about 10 or 12 years ago and decided I was going to write a book. I didn't realize at that time how hard it is to sit down and write a book. And when I met
00:20:14.040 --> 00:20:20.250 Mark Alyn: Survey at I think was at the same deep, deep dive. About three years ago, little over that.
00:20:21.870 --> 00:20:26.130 Mark Alyn: Survey and I became immediate friends. I mean, you know,
00:20:27.150 --> 00:20:29.940 Mark Alyn: I call her up and asked her what I should make for dinner.
00:20:31.080 --> 00:20:33.930 Mark Alyn: And we're about 80 Miles 90 miles apart.
00:20:35.100 --> 00:20:36.480 Mark Alyn: From my wife and family.
00:20:37.650 --> 00:20:47.340 Mark Alyn: We talked a lot. And when I gave her the idea, she said, We got to write the book together and we we did she kicked me in my butt very
00:20:47.400 --> 00:21:01.170 Mark Alyn: Office and we end the book happen. The reason I wanted to do it is I saw a lot of people saying growing old sucks, but I didn't think it did. I really, I still don't.
00:21:02.220 --> 00:21:06.330 Mark Alyn: I think that growing old is in your mind.
00:21:06.810 --> 00:21:11.100 Mark Alyn: And there are people who hit 4045 50 even 30
00:21:12.180 --> 00:21:18.360 Mark Alyn: And they say, life is over. I'm done. And they sit on the couch, the rest of their life.
00:21:18.930 --> 00:21:19.920 Mark Alyn: And this book.
00:21:19.950 --> 00:21:20.610 Mark Alyn: I'm going to use
00:21:22.830 --> 00:21:25.710 Mark Alyn: Something that you said during your, your, your
00:21:27.330 --> 00:21:29.430 Mark Alyn: Opening remarks.
00:21:30.570 --> 00:21:41.250 Mark Alyn: Turned on to life. I am so turned on the life. Well, at least most of the time. Sometimes I'm in it, you're from, but most of the time, I am turned on the light
00:21:41.730 --> 00:21:43.140 Servet Hasan: And that's what this book is all
00:21:43.140 --> 00:21:52.740 Mark Alyn: About it's an easy read. It's fun. We think it's the a lot of humor in it. I mean, we talk about sex.
00:21:55.230 --> 00:21:57.210 Mark Alyn: Just because you're old doesn't mean you can't
00:21:58.410 --> 00:22:01.890 Mark Alyn: You know mess around. It's, it's a good thing to do.
00:22:02.700 --> 00:22:03.660 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: So, so
00:22:03.720 --> 00:22:12.720 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: So fat. Let me ask you, what was it about the idea that you thought was a good idea. And it's like, yeah, let's write a book about being older
00:22:13.200 --> 00:22:24.000 Servet Hasan: Well, I agree with Mark, I think I'm against anti aging, because if you anti age are dying so i i wanted to book that had
00:22:25.140 --> 00:22:33.600 Servet Hasan: A male perspective as well as a female which I have never done before and I wanted to be about aging with attitude.
00:22:33.990 --> 00:22:50.640 Servet Hasan: Because if you have the right attitude, you don't actually age. Anyway, you're just embracing who you are, your actual true self. There's a quote a really good quote in the very beginning of the book from David Bowie. Here's the book. I'm going to read the quote
00:22:53.040 --> 00:23:01.230 Servet Hasan: Of all people said aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been
00:23:01.590 --> 00:23:07.620 Servet Hasan: Man, I read that quote, and I heard this idea from Mark and I said, Yeah.
00:23:07.800 --> 00:23:23.280 Servet Hasan: This is the best time of our lives. If we want to be, if we know how to embrace exactly who we are and live the life we choose to live our love our way and then i and then he had this idea and we put it together.
00:23:23.850 --> 00:23:38.520 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Cool, cool. I'm Mark, I'm curious when you were working on the book did you kind of mentioned it to like other people. And did you get any kind of like skeptical looks like. Hi, you want to write a book about that.
00:23:39.360 --> 00:23:54.840 Mark Alyn: Now actually, excuse me. Actually not. Actually, I had very good feedback when I originally thought of the idea. I just didn't really know how to go about it. And I think that that
00:23:56.910 --> 00:24:07.110 Mark Alyn: People just said, wow, everybody, as you said at the beginning, everybody has heard the term growing old sucks the tagline, but it doesn't have to
00:24:08.400 --> 00:24:26.340 Mark Alyn: is up to you. You said in your opening, everything comes from within at something, I believe, and I know that sorbet does as well. And so what we've done is we've said, hey, stop listening to the crap that's outside listen to what's inside.
00:24:27.000 --> 00:24:29.010 Servet Hasan: Right. That's the important thing.
00:24:29.730 --> 00:24:46.560 Mark Alyn: And so we talk about in the book, we talk about, as I said, sex, we talk about food. What if, God forbid, you're divorced and you're 65 years old and you've never been in the kitchen that can be both a man and a woman. It doesn't matter.
00:24:47.190 --> 00:24:48.000 Servet Hasan: So we
00:24:48.030 --> 00:25:01.290 Mark Alyn: Talk about eating and making a meal for yourself. We've got a a Facebook Live show on Tuesdays. It runs up to up to 30 minutes and we were talking about
00:25:02.100 --> 00:25:17.880 Mark Alyn: Food and drink and how easy it can be to make a wonderful meal. Most of them are pretty healthy and to enjoy life because to me, food is art food is a part of life. Okay.
00:25:18.210 --> 00:25:19.680 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Your pleasure. Right.
00:25:19.710 --> 00:25:21.720 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: It's about having pleasure in life.
00:25:21.990 --> 00:25:23.700 Servet Hasan: Right, yeah.
00:25:24.930 --> 00:25:30.570 Mark Alyn: Goes or you can go to Trader Joe's and and fake tikka tikka masala. Yeah.
00:25:32.910 --> 00:25:33.630 Servet Hasan: That's me.
00:25:34.170 --> 00:25:42.090 Servet Hasan: I think it's important to remember that if we want our world to change. You know, if you want your world to change, you have to change.
00:25:42.480 --> 00:25:53.430 Servet Hasan: So it does come from within and it, it's all about not not fighting who were becoming but becoming more of who we should be or want to be
00:25:53.910 --> 00:26:09.480 Servet Hasan: And and living our life, not for our kids or our husband or wife or for our friends or for any of those things that we probably did when we were a lot younger, now we can just say, you know what, this is a lot my life to live as I choose
00:26:09.960 --> 00:26:19.680 Servet Hasan: And and go about it any way you want. Which doesn't mean you have to go out and and skydive but do the things that you wanted to do that you've never done just like
00:26:20.160 --> 00:26:35.070 Servet Hasan: One of the points in the book is that in order to stay. I'm into not growing old side is to embrace new things. Try new things to continually grow mentally and physically
00:26:35.910 --> 00:26:42.930 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yeah, I remember hearing a few years ago that there was some study done where they found that
00:26:44.880 --> 00:26:51.330 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: If you changed your path of how you would go to work and back go back and forth every day.
00:26:51.630 --> 00:26:59.340 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Even by, like, you know, I'm a New York City guy so like I take the subways and walk. I don't drive a lot of people try, but if you like.
00:26:59.700 --> 00:27:15.600 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Turn down a different block or you walk a different way or you get off the stuff before. And you just mix it up and just don't do it. The path exactly the same every day that it actually helps to create the brain helps to keep the brain young and creates different neural pathways.
00:27:16.860 --> 00:27:18.570 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: So there's actually
00:27:18.780 --> 00:27:25.020 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Like even little things we can do to help us to stay more vibrant and more
00:27:26.580 --> 00:27:31.500 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Healthy mentally, emotionally as well as physically right so that
00:27:31.830 --> 00:27:37.200 Servet Hasan: Right. One of the things that Mark talks about in the book is in his wife, both
00:27:37.950 --> 00:27:48.750 Servet Hasan: If you brush your teeth with your right hand. They both do it with their left hand. Every other day or so because it so things like that, like you said just taking a different path to work.
00:27:49.410 --> 00:28:01.050 Servet Hasan: Using a different hand to brush your teeth or brush your hair doing mixing things up a little bit, keeping your mind active exercising your mind is just as important as exercising your body
00:28:01.530 --> 00:28:12.690 Servet Hasan: So I truly believe in that, and that one things mark is doing to all that I'm talking about is they they're trying new recipes. They're trying new things on the show, they do on Tuesday nights.
00:28:13.320 --> 00:28:21.570 Servet Hasan: Lorna language, any of those things that keep your mind in shape will keep your body in shape as well. Mm hmm.
00:28:21.990 --> 00:28:22.890 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Okay, Margaret.
00:28:23.400 --> 00:28:24.810 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I have a question for you though.
00:28:27.120 --> 00:28:30.990 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You're married did your wife get jealous about you doing this book would serve so
00:28:32.760 --> 00:28:36.180 Mark Alyn: Glad because I, I didn't bugger.
00:28:41.400 --> 00:28:42.330 Mark Alyn: Don't bother me.
00:28:43.260 --> 00:28:43.530 That
00:28:46.440 --> 00:28:49.590 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: huge relief on her. She's like, he's got someone else the bug.
00:28:51.060 --> 00:29:08.010 Mark Alyn: Was really good about about it actually. Carol helped us she did a an edit or two on the book she enjoyed it and when she Carol's like a lot of wives is a, how do I say this nicely. I can't. She's a
00:29:08.070 --> 00:29:08.550 Mark Alyn: Harsh
00:29:08.700 --> 00:29:18.360 Mark Alyn: harsh critic when I do I show it to her and she goes, or she goes, Yeah, that's pretty good. I know that I'm on the right track. The same thing with the book.
00:29:18.750 --> 00:29:20.520 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Now, okay, great, great.
00:29:22.050 --> 00:29:29.010 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Alright, we're going to take our next break. And when we come back survey that I'd like to ask you a little bit about sort of
00:29:30.390 --> 00:29:37.680 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Aging in different cultures, because it's different, depending on where you are, like, there's a certain way that we see things here and there's a certain way, they're seeing
00:29:37.950 --> 00:29:44.850 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: In other places. Okay, so we'll, we'll kick off the next segment with that. And then God knows where it'll take us. Okay.
00:29:46.440 --> 00:30:02.790 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Everybody please stay tuned. You're listening to the conscious consultant. Our awakening humanity. We're speaking this hour with Mark Allen and service has Hassan authors of the new book growing old sucks, but it doesn't have to. And we will be right back after this
00:32:53.550 --> 00:33:10.740 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And welcome back to the conscious consultant. Our awakening humanity. We're speaking with Mark Allen and service Hassan authors of the book growing old Suk so service you're a global citizen you you've been all over the place.
00:33:13.230 --> 00:33:17.160 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Different cultures kind of view getting older differently. Don't say
00:33:17.790 --> 00:33:22.410 Servet Hasan: Hey. Sure do. And one of the hardest ones is America.
00:33:24.450 --> 00:33:33.090 Servet Hasan: This you know we cuz there's so much emphasis on staying young looking young being thin being pretty Botox.
00:33:33.450 --> 00:33:43.950 Servet Hasan: Etc. Etc or in other countries like France, for instance, they really just embrace who they are and love their wrinkles and everything else and
00:33:44.190 --> 00:33:53.820 Servet Hasan: And and move forward. Also, I think they're more revered as they age. And then they are here and in many countries like Pakistan.
00:33:54.210 --> 00:34:09.540 Servet Hasan: You become the same age as you age, you know, and they look to you for wisdom and respect, rather than, you know, here, so it is a bit different. And I do talk we do talk about that in the book as well. We talked about how you know don't
00:34:10.080 --> 00:34:20.880 Servet Hasan: Who cares what other people think of you is not of your business living your life the way you want to live it. And that's one of the main points of the book as well.
00:34:21.240 --> 00:34:37.230 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Right, right. One of the things I was, I find very curious was my wife is from China is that, you know, in China. When you're elderly, you're, you're very respected just for reaching a certain age and stuff. However, what I find interesting is
00:34:38.340 --> 00:34:53.160 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: At like 60 or 65 you're considered old already whereas here in the United States. Lots of people are 6065 even 70 really aren't that old yet. I mean, really, it's like not until you're in your 70s or 80s that you're considered quote unquote old
00:34:54.150 --> 00:34:56.700 Mark Alyn: Sam, let me interrupt just for a second, just
00:34:57.090 --> 00:34:58.470 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You know the the
00:34:58.500 --> 00:35:01.230 Mark Alyn: President of the United States is in the 70s.
00:35:01.800 --> 00:35:02.160 Right.
00:35:03.450 --> 00:35:05.040 Mark Alyn: There may be a little dementia there but
00:35:05.790 --> 00:35:08.910 Mark Alyn: Next guy coming in is is also in his 70s.
00:35:09.180 --> 00:35:11.670 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Right. I think that that that
00:35:11.700 --> 00:35:12.330 Age.
00:35:13.650 --> 00:35:14.610 Mark Alyn: That ageism
00:35:15.210 --> 00:35:18.810 Mark Alyn: Mm hmm. Okay. Is is hopefully changing
00:35:19.740 --> 00:35:20.820 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Um, yeah.
00:35:21.210 --> 00:35:30.540 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yeah, so I'm curious, Mark, what advice would you have towards people who are maybe having a little bit of a difficult time with with
00:35:31.800 --> 00:35:40.590 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Dealing with being older not that they necessarily themselves so much have such a problem with it. But the way they feel they're being treated as an older person.
00:35:41.040 --> 00:35:49.230 Mark Alyn: I'll give you a good example. I was talking to some friends client and she was having trouble.
00:35:49.710 --> 00:36:05.250 Mark Alyn: With her computer. And she said, I'm gonna have to wait. I can't do this. Now I have to wait till my son comes over and I said, How old is your son is 29. I said, great. I think that's terrific. But why don't you Google the problem.
00:36:05.520 --> 00:36:06.930 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That you're having and
00:36:06.960 --> 00:36:16.230 Mark Alyn: And solve it yourself. And she looked at me with a blank stare can do that said, Yeah. I said I'll bet it's an easy fix.
00:36:17.850 --> 00:36:23.670 Mark Alyn: You know I'm holding up my iPhone. How many times does a parent.
00:36:24.870 --> 00:36:31.530 Mark Alyn: Trying to do something on the iPhone, the kid just grabs it away 20 year old 30 year old kid grabs it away and says, hey, I'll do it.
00:36:32.580 --> 00:36:32.910 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You mean
00:36:32.940 --> 00:36:33.390 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You mean like a
00:36:33.510 --> 00:36:35.340 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: 10 year old or 12 year old kid right
00:36:36.270 --> 00:36:37.980 Mark Alyn: I mean the 30 year old kid but
00:36:38.220 --> 00:36:55.170 Mark Alyn: Even a 10 year old is doing the same thing. It's frustrating with technology, the three of us did not grow up with technology. Okay. Sam, you may have had an Atari, but I was I'm older than that.
00:36:55.230 --> 00:36:56.520 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I didn't have an injury.
00:36:56.910 --> 00:36:59.730 Mark Alyn: I still don't like video games. They make me nauseous, but
00:37:01.950 --> 00:37:02.340 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: So,
00:37:02.430 --> 00:37:17.670 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: So Mark, I noticed something over the recently in the last few years that there have been a number of TV series created about older people. Um, there's a one with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin
00:37:17.760 --> 00:37:19.230 Mark Alyn: Oh, that's such a great show.
00:37:20.040 --> 00:37:20.760 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: What was it called
00:37:22.050 --> 00:37:22.770 Servet Hasan: Grace.
00:37:22.800 --> 00:37:23.730 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Frankie and grace.
00:37:25.050 --> 00:37:26.370 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yeah, and I just
00:37:26.400 --> 00:37:35.670 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I mean, just because I love them as as actresses. So I've watched you know future episodes. And there was one episode where like they were
00:37:37.020 --> 00:37:45.120 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I think was Lily Tomlin was like in the supermarket or was a chain find in the supermarket and and the checkout person was just completely ignoring them.
00:37:45.420 --> 00:37:51.600 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And so she ended up just like taking your stuff and walking out of the supermarket without paying for it because it was like they were invisible.
00:37:51.870 --> 00:37:52.980 Servet Hasan: Right and
00:37:53.040 --> 00:38:05.370 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And I thought that that you know it was very funny the way they portrayed it but it highlighted something that sometimes people of that age feel like they're invisible that younger people just ignore them.
00:38:05.850 --> 00:38:07.800 Mark Alyn: Why and What you said is right.
00:38:09.180 --> 00:38:14.610 Mark Alyn: Unfortunately, you know, here in America. People want to be useful. I mean, you know,
00:38:16.710 --> 00:38:18.030 Servet Hasan: Instant you they want
00:38:18.270 --> 00:38:19.890 Mark Alyn: All the wrinkles to go away.
00:38:21.240 --> 00:38:23.850 Mark Alyn: They want the well I'd like the neck to
00:38:24.300 --> 00:38:24.900 Servet Hasan: The chin talk
00:38:26.790 --> 00:38:28.320 Mark Alyn: With. With. With.
00:38:29.670 --> 00:38:37.080 Mark Alyn: The Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda show they covered a lot of things in there that people don't know about.
00:38:37.590 --> 00:38:41.670 Mark Alyn: Okay, for example, sex again.
00:38:41.850 --> 00:38:48.420 Mark Alyn: With the people. I mean, Jane Fonda is 80 plus years old and you know I'd asked for a pass.
00:38:50.280 --> 00:38:51.510 Mark Alyn: If you know what i mean i mean
00:38:53.460 --> 00:39:04.800 Mark Alyn: Your wife would let you do it anyway mana they, you know, Lily Tomlin at her age in her 70s is a proponent of cannabis. Yeah. She smokes pot.
00:39:07.470 --> 00:39:22.410 Mark Alyn: People don't know that there are sitcoms, where the, the father will go up to the wife and give her a hug and the kids will say, you get a room, you know that you're too old.
00:39:24.750 --> 00:39:26.640 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And then there's that other one with
00:39:28.950 --> 00:39:30.360 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Michael Douglas and
00:39:34.680 --> 00:39:35.580 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Risky method.
00:39:37.140 --> 00:39:39.390 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And Alan Arkin love Alan Arkin he was
00:39:41.400 --> 00:39:47.850 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Saying that there are differences, though, between men and women, a bit getting older, aren't there.
00:39:48.660 --> 00:40:01.470 Servet Hasan: Yes, there are a men can get old and gray and they just look more debonair as opposed to women who start to feel and they still get more work, stop that mark.
00:40:03.480 --> 00:40:05.520 Servet Hasan: I mean look at George Clooney. I mean,
00:40:06.060 --> 00:40:19.830 Servet Hasan: Is this all 60 and he just get better looking, and that's just our standard of how we approach people as a age and women get the shorter and the stick with that, you know, but
00:40:20.310 --> 00:40:41.790 Servet Hasan: But like you said, Mark, look at, look at people like Jane Fonda. I mean, she look I know she's had a lot done. Yeah. But even so, I 62 I don't mind saying that I'm a cancer survivor. So I will not ever be able to or want to choose to have anything ever done to myself.
00:40:42.390 --> 00:40:54.030 Servet Hasan: Okay, with that I really am. I'm fine with that. I just think that, you know, if, like I said, what other people think of me as we age becomes less and less important or it should
00:40:54.240 --> 00:40:56.490 Mark Alyn: You know, and all that's her but
00:40:56.490 --> 00:40:59.190 Mark Alyn: No, she ages how she's doing
00:41:02.820 --> 00:41:03.360 Servet Hasan: Well,
00:41:04.320 --> 00:41:08.100 Mark Alyn: See, I told you, Sam. You should have had a son, years ago.
00:41:10.980 --> 00:41:12.780 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I probably would have kicked you off by that.
00:41:15.360 --> 00:41:19.020 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: So so bad, I would like to just ask you because you're
00:41:20.070 --> 00:41:23.070 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You're, you're very much
00:41:24.240 --> 00:41:29.070 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Grounded in in the mystical traditions and spiritual stuff.
00:41:30.480 --> 00:41:46.500 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You know, in some spiritual traditions like like with the Kabbalah. You can't even study the Kaaba law until you're 30 or 40 years old. The in spiritual traditions, really, the view of aging is so different, isn't it, than what we see in modern society.
00:41:47.550 --> 00:41:55.680 Servet Hasan: It is, um, you know, really in spirituality, though, truly. There is no time, we are all eternal
00:41:55.980 --> 00:42:10.680 Servet Hasan: So I think that we just embrace where we are, for what we are, you know, I was born in Pakistan, and like I you know how them 1958 they were bearing baby girls alive when I was born. My name in English means treasure.
00:42:11.280 --> 00:42:22.920 Servet Hasan: Because they didn't marry, so they also when a baby is born were black. And when someone dies they were white and their wedding colors red but
00:42:23.340 --> 00:42:39.030 Servet Hasan: You know they they were white when people pass because they feel like, yeah, you're, you're done here. You've learned what your soul came here to learn and you're going to a better place. And when you're born, you're wearing black because it's not the greatest place to be.
00:42:39.720 --> 00:42:45.690 Servet Hasan: Sure to learn the lessons and hopefully you'll make the best of it and have a really good time.
00:42:45.900 --> 00:42:57.600 Servet Hasan: But you know, it's all about your internal growth your inner stuff and where that's going to take you, you talked about that in the beginning. Sam with your quotes from Abraham
00:42:58.050 --> 00:43:07.860 Servet Hasan: And and so yeah it really aging is is if you look at it, spiritually, there is no such thing. You're just on a journey and enjoy it.
00:43:08.640 --> 00:43:18.390 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Right. Right. Exactly. Exactly. Um, Mark. We just got about a minute before we go to break, I'm curious what
00:43:19.290 --> 00:43:29.760 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Kinds of sources like what kinds of research did you do for this book in terms of, like, did you find that there's a lot of literature about how to age better or is there actually not that much of it.
00:43:30.090 --> 00:43:44.880 Mark Alyn: There's not that much of it. I mean, you know, there's medical stuff. There's some psychological stuff. But what we tried to do is to incorporate through interviews and our own experience.
00:43:47.070 --> 00:44:09.360 Mark Alyn: How to age with attitude and nobody nobody is doing that. One of the things that I talk about is that to me talking about a next life. The next part of the journey is okay, but what's really important is what you do here helping other people being with other people.
00:44:10.950 --> 00:44:18.420 Mark Alyn: Being a friend that being with your family being a good dad, you know, my best productions for my kids.
00:44:20.970 --> 00:44:32.640 Mark Alyn: I think that's what's really important this life. And I think that's what growing old sucks is all about making this life as best as it can be.
00:44:34.200 --> 00:44:35.370 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Gotcha, gotcha.
00:44:35.400 --> 00:44:36.150 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Alright, cool.
00:44:36.360 --> 00:44:44.430 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Cool. I think it's a great note to end this segment on when we come back I would like you both to maybe give our audience. Some tips.
00:44:45.000 --> 00:45:04.530 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: You know, a few more, you know, what can people do little, little simple things on a daily basis that, you know, can help them to feel better, as they grow older, and maybe help prepare themselves for what's to come in and do it in a way that really serves them. Okay.
00:45:05.430 --> 00:45:05.910 Mark Alyn: All right.
00:45:06.420 --> 00:45:15.510 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Awesome. So everybody please stay tuned. You're listening to the conscious consultant. Our awakening humanity. We're speaking this hour with Mark Allen and serve that Hassan
00:45:15.810 --> 00:45:21.750 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: authors of the book co authors of the book growing old sucks, but it doesn't have to. And we'll be right back after this
00:45:22.890 --> 00:45:26.250 Or listening to talk radio NYC.
00:47:42.480 --> 00:47:51.810 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Welcome back to the conscious consultant. Our awakening humanity. We're talking with Mark Allen and survey Hassan authors of the book growing old sucks so
00:47:52.920 --> 00:48:06.630 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Mark, what advice would you have for people who are starting to feel their age a little bit and are sort of more conscious about what's going on. Maybe about, you know,
00:48:07.290 --> 00:48:14.640 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: moving in that direction that we're not so happy about usually little more aware of it than they used to be. What would you recommend for people
00:48:14.670 --> 00:48:15.420 Mark Alyn: Well as
00:48:17.010 --> 00:48:21.780 Mark Alyn: I said earlier, you know, I brush my teeth with my left hand. A couple times a week.
00:48:23.010 --> 00:48:33.060 Mark Alyn: I go to the market different ways, especially now with coven I go to different markets where I live in Southern California.
00:48:34.170 --> 00:48:39.690 Mark Alyn: We're just catching up to things like you know order your groceries online.
00:48:40.830 --> 00:48:55.950 Mark Alyn: And you can pick them up. So I'm trying different things all the time. And that's I think the key. I actually don't feel any differently physically than I did when I was in my 20s. All right, I have a little
00:48:55.980 --> 00:48:57.720 Servet Hasan: Pain here and a little pain there.
00:48:58.050 --> 00:48:59.220 Servet Hasan: But for the most part.
00:48:59.280 --> 00:49:00.090 I ignore them.
00:49:01.800 --> 00:49:03.060 Mark Alyn: In here.
00:49:04.140 --> 00:49:12.030 Mark Alyn: I'm the same when I shave. I shave without my glasses. We we all were you, you were you have contacts right service.
00:49:13.650 --> 00:49:13.860 Servet Hasan: Now,
00:49:14.190 --> 00:49:15.090 Servet Hasan: She's got great eyes.
00:49:15.510 --> 00:49:16.440 Servet Hasan: So my
00:49:16.650 --> 00:49:20.790 Mark Alyn: I shave without my glasses because I look better to myself.
00:49:21.210 --> 00:49:21.600 Mark Alyn: So,
00:49:21.840 --> 00:49:26.220 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: All can be a little dangerous. And if I do that, I get like nicks and cuts everywhere.
00:49:26.310 --> 00:49:29.730 Mark Alyn: Well as my wife said, my eyes aren't all that bad.
00:49:31.470 --> 00:49:40.110 Mark Alyn: But I've been wearing glasses since I've when I'm working on the computer or editing or or doing video production. I don't have my glasses on. I
00:49:41.220 --> 00:49:42.210 Find them a hindrance.
00:49:44.010 --> 00:49:50.760 Mark Alyn: But trying different things like cooking like having sex in the kitchen like
00:49:53.580 --> 00:49:57.660 Mark Alyn: Going for a walk in a different part of your neighborhood.
00:49:59.580 --> 00:50:08.040 Mark Alyn: You know, going to the market and looking at something that's on a shelf and buying it, even though you don't know what the hell it is. Yeah.
00:50:09.990 --> 00:50:12.450 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yeah, my wife and I, we used to be members of a
00:50:13.260 --> 00:50:25.440 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: CSA it's a call a community supported agriculture. It's like you buy a share of a farmer's crop and then once a week for so many weeks you just pick up whatever it is and you get a handful of this and a pound of that and some lessons.
00:50:26.850 --> 00:50:36.240 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And we got, you know, all these vegetables and produce and and half the stuff we'd like didn't know how to cook. We didn't know what it was the first time getting it. But we're like, okay.
00:50:36.270 --> 00:50:37.890 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: We bought it. We may as well.
00:50:37.890 --> 00:50:38.910 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Do something with it.
00:50:39.210 --> 00:50:47.460 Mark Alyn: Absolutely. And I think that's important. I keep going back to food because I do two kinds of analogies one or food and the other is Broadway show. Music
00:50:47.700 --> 00:50:48.510 Mark Alyn: And by the way,
00:50:48.630 --> 00:50:53.790 Mark Alyn: I have to interrupt and myself and you and everybody else Sam Did not snore.
00:50:54.570 --> 00:50:54.720 And
00:50:58.470 --> 00:50:59.970 Mark Alyn: You thought it was gonna forget
00:51:01.260 --> 00:51:02.790 Mark Alyn: As much as Robert Clancy
00:51:05.370 --> 00:51:07.410 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Well, not as much as not saying much.
00:51:09.810 --> 00:51:17.490 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: That what what advice and what recommendations, what what practices, maybe, do you have that you think would be helpful for people
00:51:17.520 --> 00:51:27.300 Servet Hasan: Well for women, especially, we're not doctors. You know we did talk to a couple in the book I talked to one in particular my sister in law, who's an endocrinologist.
00:51:27.630 --> 00:51:33.180 Servet Hasan: Who you know says women should be aware of hormone therapy and things like that because
00:51:33.420 --> 00:51:44.730 Servet Hasan: As boomers, you know, you're going to have gone through menopause, or will be or have been. And so all of those things are important. So you should keep up with your medical checkups.
00:51:45.600 --> 00:51:58.470 Servet Hasan: Osteoporosis is a big problem for women, more so than men, although they do have issues with it as well 10,000 steps a day is what they recommend so that you can you ward that off. So walking
00:51:59.340 --> 00:52:10.170 Servet Hasan: Exercising is extremely important, keep your body moving. That's key. So getting up and walking and exercises that don't require that are
00:52:11.040 --> 00:52:20.880 Servet Hasan: Easy on your body like swimming is a lot easier on your body. Believe it or not, the walking because you've got the water to help you biking is a lot easier because you've got the button.
00:52:21.450 --> 00:52:37.440 Servet Hasan: So things that you can do walking, running, or even just tennis, those kinds of things are a lot better for you. So I think just be really key get that body off the couch. Yeah. And then drinking helps to
00:52:42.510 --> 00:52:45.060 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Just wanted to clarify that drinking water drinking
00:52:45.060 --> 00:52:45.540 Alcohol.
00:52:48.180 --> 00:52:49.020 Servet Hasan: cannot hurt.
00:52:49.440 --> 00:52:59.220 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Another. Absolutely, absolutely. Yeah. One of the things my wife and I mean we started doing it before, but we started doing it more diligently after the lockdown.
00:52:59.640 --> 00:53:14.070 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Because we live close to Central Park in Manhattan is no three to four sometimes five nights a week, we'll go for a walk after dinner in the park and we'll walk from anywhere from two and a half to three and a half to four and a half mile sometimes
00:53:14.640 --> 00:53:25.080 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And we found that just the consistency of doing it all the time like really helps. And then we can we've, you know, really started to notice the difference after, you know, just a few months.
00:53:26.370 --> 00:53:28.410 Mark Alyn: And your wife protects you on those walks
00:53:28.740 --> 00:53:31.950 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Absolutely. She's fear so you don't mess with my wife and
00:53:33.600 --> 00:53:39.570 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I we just got a few minutes left. Um, Mark, I'm curious, you know, we mentioned before how
00:53:40.680 --> 00:53:45.300 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Things that ageism is starting to shift a little bit in this in the United States.
00:53:46.320 --> 00:53:55.920 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Do you see like attitudes towards aging shifting as as this huge segment of the population starts moving into these older years
00:53:56.430 --> 00:54:02.400 Mark Alyn: Well, they have to. And the reason they have to is just what you said there are more of us than there are of them.
00:54:03.990 --> 00:54:06.330 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: sheer numbers. We got him by sheer numbers.
00:54:06.780 --> 00:54:14.730 Mark Alyn: Okay, it's just the fact that that's how it is. We as those of us who are over 50
00:54:16.320 --> 00:54:24.990 Mark Alyn: Maybe a little bit more older than that, we have to understand that we have the power, you know, advertisers.
00:54:25.800 --> 00:54:36.030 Mark Alyn: Are ignoring us, um, you know, but it's interesting. If you watch something like wheel of fortune or jeopardy. They have products that
00:54:36.630 --> 00:54:51.120 Mark Alyn: Are geared to seniors, or what they think are seniors. It used to be geritol, which I think is still a vitamin. I think it's still around. But they've got, you know, things like depends if you go to Costco. They have a whole aisle of depends.
00:54:51.900 --> 00:54:52.950 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Kids depends
00:54:54.570 --> 00:54:55.860 Mark Alyn: Men, women.
00:54:57.900 --> 00:55:00.540 Mark Alyn: Just it's it's amazing to me.
00:55:01.770 --> 00:55:08.370 Mark Alyn: And they talk about in continents primarily for older people to, how would that stuff, you know, why not
00:55:08.460 --> 00:55:10.200 Mark Alyn: Why not talk about a cruise.
00:55:11.610 --> 00:55:22.530 Mark Alyn: And show you know show older people on the cruise, we can afford it from for the most part, or a 20 year old can't go to a cruise on in the Mediterranean.
00:55:22.980 --> 00:55:26.460 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: Yeah, yeah. All right. Now, nobody's cruising. But yes.
00:55:27.330 --> 00:55:27.870 Mark Alyn: Right now.
00:55:28.320 --> 00:55:30.540 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: I remember once my mom retired.
00:55:30.780 --> 00:55:37.470 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: And she made a couple of friends at the senior center. She was cruising with her friends like almost all the time. It was crazy. So
00:55:38.520 --> 00:55:40.500 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: What are you looking forward to in the future.
00:55:42.240 --> 00:55:48.030 Servet Hasan: Um, peace, peace of mind, more than anything, I think that's the goal and
00:55:48.660 --> 00:56:06.660 Servet Hasan: With our souls with ourselves with our spirituality with my family with my friends, I think that, uh, one of the ways that I i do that every day is I do meditate, but I also take time at night to be in gratitude and be thankful for all the things that I do have
00:56:07.830 --> 00:56:17.460 Servet Hasan: All the things that I don't have because sometimes if I don't have them as Buddha would say so, sometimes not getting what you want is the best thing that could ever happen to you.
00:56:17.820 --> 00:56:26.100 Servet Hasan: So I embrace that as well and I look forward to being more and more peace and loving to not only others but to myself.
00:56:27.510 --> 00:56:29.280 Sam Liebowitz, The Conscious Consultant: It all starts with ourselves, right.
00:56:29.550 --> 00:56:30.930 Servet Hasan: Right. That's right.
