Steven introduces today’s topic is business building brilliance. Steven further dives into surrounding yourself with the right people in business is very important and with that he welcomes guest Machen MacDonald, founder of ProBrilliance Leadership Institute among many other accolades. Steven further dives into the important question of “what is the purpose of your business?” and the main reason of a business, as harsh as it sounds, is to make money. This is an important question to ask and evaluate so you can move forward to further goals in life and your business. Another aspect of running a good business is having the right products and services and in order to get there you have to surround yourself with the right people.
We start this segment with Steven talking to Machen further about business planning. Steven asks Machen what gets him going in the morning and what gives him the motivation to get to work. They further talk about how failing is part of the process and is just feedback in running a business. We can’t be afraid to fail and be willing to work at it. In the process we always have to have the faith that it is going to work out and how you always have to look for opportunity. To close this segment Steven asks Machen how his business is going to market and how others can go to market during these times, in addition to how to speak to customers emotionally and how to connect with our market base.
They open up this segment discussing the mental and emotional foundation of a business and how to build/find it. Steven and Machen further discuss how business owners sometimes have trouble going through others and surrounding themselves with the right people to help guide them vs. just using a roadmap on their own. They then dive into leadership vs. management and some of the differences there. Leadership is about the people while management is about the numbers. They close this segment with Steve asking Machen what he sees out there with businesses that are struggling, having success, etc. and other hot topics in this environment.
In the closing segment Steve reminds Machen this is the messaging part of the show to leave listeners something to take away. With that Steve reads a quote from Machen for listeners to take away and asks Machen what are other things to take into the weekend. They close asking Machen favorite TV show character, favorite movie character, favorite TV show, favorite movie and favorite musical instrument and favorite artist who plays it.

00:05:11.430 --> 00:05:20.370 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We will be joined by nation if we take our first commercial break. Today, in the meantime, let's talk a little bit about the theme of the day so I could just give you my personal take on it.
00:05:21.210 --> 00:05:29.610 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Most businesses that I've spoken with out there, they really want to grow and, you know, especially right now, you know, some of them. It's more about
00:05:29.970 --> 00:05:35.310 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Losing less than it is about growing with the pandemic issues that we've that we've been facing today.
00:05:35.730 --> 00:05:42.510 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But I distinctly remember you know I always like to reference some some books that I've read and stories I've seen along the way.
00:05:42.870 --> 00:05:47.370 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I wanted to share with you guys some tidbits from a book that I read a few years back, called found money.
00:05:47.670 --> 00:05:53.940 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): By Steve Wilson off and it's goes directly into our theme of the day with mission here is a lot of missions time
00:05:54.210 --> 00:06:03.390 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Was spent working with financial advisors insurance brokers who end up being trusted advisors to SMEs and you know really helping all of the above.
00:06:03.780 --> 00:06:15.720 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Find some of the, the last time and lost money that's really existing and lurking in their practices so that they can keep a clear your mind on their focus and really what they're trying to do and what the purpose of their businesses.
00:06:16.140 --> 00:06:22.590 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So without further ado, the pieces that I wanted to share with you from the book found money. They have a lot to do with business purpose.
00:06:23.010 --> 00:06:27.690 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So chapter one of the book. It's actually titled, what's the purpose of your business.
00:06:28.560 --> 00:06:33.930 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So inside here, he asked the questions the walking off. What do you think is the purpose of your business.
00:06:34.350 --> 00:06:42.780 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Every time I asked him a question I asked this question at seminars or when working with a new client a certain pattern is reinforced after years of asking the question.
00:06:43.080 --> 00:06:51.060 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I've heard a list of answers that are repeated so often that have come to expect them, the answers are usually a variation of one or more of the following
00:06:51.480 --> 00:06:55.980 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We make a difference in people's lives. I love what I do and I wanted to make a living doing it.
00:06:56.460 --> 00:07:03.150 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I wanted to be rewarded for how hard I worked. We help people. We provide a valuable, valuable product or service to people.
00:07:03.660 --> 00:07:15.120 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I like to make my customers happy. I enjoy improving my customers lives. People need what we sell. I can't imagine doing anything else. I have a hard time working for someone else love that one.
00:07:15.630 --> 00:07:24.810 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I enjoy being in control of my future. Everyone is single one of these answers and there many variations are examples of wonderful goals and beliefs.
00:07:25.140 --> 00:07:35.580 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But when it comes to a reason for any business to exist. They are all completely wrong is what Steve working off seconds. So what is the purpose of your business.
00:07:36.180 --> 00:07:42.840 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): To make money. End of story. Really, that's it. The answer is that simple might not be easy, but it's that simple.
00:07:43.410 --> 00:07:50.010 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Now doesn't want to sound like a heartless mercenary although I'm certainly willing to do it. If that's what it takes to make the point
00:07:50.430 --> 00:07:59.460 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But making money really and truly is the main reason that a business exists, it might sound harsh, but it's the honest truth. Get over it.
00:08:00.210 --> 00:08:10.680 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Of course, it goes without saying that you know your business needs to make money. Honestly ethically and legally again, it goes back to our consistent theme of people process and product.
00:08:11.430 --> 00:08:21.210 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Steve walking off says, Let me explain myself. The reason your business exists is to make money is the reason your business exists to make money is that everything else comes from that one thing
00:08:21.720 --> 00:08:30.420 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): It's only after your business makes money for you that you have options to do what you want with your money and your time. And I know that's something Megan believes very strongly.
00:08:31.170 --> 00:08:36.750 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Once you've created a business that actually makes money you can do one summer all of the following
00:08:37.290 --> 00:08:43.830 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You can help people by using the money that your business makes you can help more people by expanding your business.
00:08:44.400 --> 00:08:56.040 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You can work less by hiring some talented team members to continue running the business that so that it keeps making money when you're not there, which to me is a very strong indicator of a great business model.
00:08:56.580 --> 00:09:04.860 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You can travel, you can increase your skills and knowledge in your area of expertise you can develop a new area of expertise.
00:09:05.550 --> 00:09:16.230 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Or you can do whatever else you desire in your dream lifestyle owning a business is a lot like being given given a raw piece of wood and some carving tools.
00:09:16.620 --> 00:09:33.570 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): If you take the time to learn the skills that you need to effectively use the tools and then you apply them you can transform that piece of wood into whatever you envision but just looking at the piece of wood and tools, using the tools poorly or improperly.
00:09:34.710 --> 00:09:41.130 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Or just wishing for a certain finished result. It's not going to do anything for you. If that's all you do.
00:09:41.820 --> 00:09:52.620 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You'll never get anywhere near the place that you'd really like to be in life. So some good tidbits for you guys. Steve working off says, Is your business making money after all of that.
00:09:54.030 --> 00:10:03.060 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Which is a different chapter of the book, it's time for you to take a hard look at your own business, you're going to examine the three most recent fiscal years your business has completed.
00:10:03.420 --> 00:10:10.500 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): If you prefer, or if it makes more sense for your business. You can choose the three most recent periods, other than fiscal years
00:10:11.160 --> 00:10:16.950 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): For example, you might decide to use the three most recent quarters, if your business is in its first year.
00:10:17.550 --> 00:10:23.220 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So some good thoughts, they're wrapping up, you have some, some of the citations here from Steve walking off found money book.
00:10:23.700 --> 00:10:30.180 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Two things for a successful business, you must do these two things to help create the financial results you want.
00:10:30.780 --> 00:10:38.190 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And to maximize your profit and cash flow. Those things are offer a product or service that people want
00:10:39.150 --> 00:10:48.900 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And sell them to people who are willing and able to pay for them sounds really simple. Okay. It goes on to say that may seem obvious and it is obvious.
00:10:49.380 --> 00:10:59.430 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But what always shocks me is that despite being obvious, it doesn't stop a lot of business owners from acting as though those two things simply don't exist.
00:10:59.940 --> 00:11:08.430 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): For example, I often hear business owners say things like, I know I really should pay more attention to this stuff, but those comments drive me nuts.
00:11:08.760 --> 00:11:16.380 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): They indicate that although the solution is obvious, the person making those comments is still failing to do anything proactively create any future
00:11:16.740 --> 00:11:20.130 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Frankly, that's a loser's attitude and you're not a loser. So please don't act like one.
00:11:20.850 --> 00:11:30.810 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): To accomplish those two things you have to understand a few, you know, real specific, you know, types of measures of looking at your business, but really you maximize the profit your business gives you
00:11:31.230 --> 00:11:38.790 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Only when you sell the most profitable products and services to the most profitable customers good thoughts.
00:11:39.450 --> 00:11:46.170 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Before you get to those really good products and services you absolutely have to surround yourself with the right people in process.
00:11:46.410 --> 00:11:55.170 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Which is what, why, when we come back we are going to be talking in detail with my man mission McDonald, who, again, is also a number one.
00:11:55.920 --> 00:12:03.780 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): best selling author in his own right. So one of the books that he has in his arsenal that goes a long way to talking of the discussion today.
00:12:04.110 --> 00:12:09.630 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Is provoking your brilliance. So again, it's a lot of thought leadership in here of
00:12:10.080 --> 00:12:20.850 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Really, how to work smarter, not necessarily harder, there's no substitute for, you know, really good work strong work ethic, especially if you're an SMB owner or manager or even employee.
00:12:21.480 --> 00:12:25.890 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You need to have a good strong work ethic, to really produce your product, your service.
00:12:26.700 --> 00:12:33.390 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But you know before all of that starts you need to be surrounded by the right people, whether it's the right employees, the right leadership.
00:12:33.660 --> 00:12:39.210 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): That has the right perspective on this is where we are. This is where we want to go.
00:12:39.600 --> 00:12:50.700 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And this is how we're going to get there. So when we come back from commercial we're going to be talking with Megan McDonald, the founder of the pro leadership brilliance Institute pro brilliance Leadership Institute.
00:12:51.240 --> 00:12:55.020 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And the pro brilliance Academy. Sorry for modeling that there
00:12:55.740 --> 00:13:04.890 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We're going to take a short break in just a moment. But when we come back, we're going to be talking about nations travels everything from being an advisor and small business owner himself.
00:13:05.160 --> 00:13:14.730 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): To his coaching programs. His books and how he gets people engaged and off their butts to start building their business brilliance will be right back.
00:15:28.260 --> 00:15:34.830 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Alright everyone, welcome back to always Friday here on talk radio dot NYC. I'm Stephen Fry your SMB guy.
00:15:35.280 --> 00:15:41.490 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We're talking about building business brilliance today. How do we get our SMEs to really start getting motivated for
00:15:41.850 --> 00:15:47.580 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Growth and good foundation and good infrastructure and really able to take the take their efforts to the next level.
00:15:47.940 --> 00:15:57.960 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So as I said before, we're gonna be talking with mission McDonald from the pro brilliance Leadership Institute. He wrote a book called provoking your brilliance and just a real quick got
00:15:58.350 --> 00:16:12.270 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): An introduction to this book mission leads you to gain clarity on your goals rewrite your own rules. So you can win the game of success and consents consistently take action to move closer to having what matters most to
00:16:12.750 --> 00:16:21.810 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): In order to implement and execute a winning business plan in the most effective way. You must have a superior mental and emotional foundation on which to recommend business plan.
00:16:22.500 --> 00:16:36.480 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): The book is a key resource in building that winning foundation. I love that concept. I always say you can't build a house on a foundation made of sand. So without further ado mission McDonald, the founder of probe brilliance Leadership Institute nation.
00:16:37.020 --> 00:16:37.830 Machen MacDonald: Hey Steve,
00:16:38.220 --> 00:16:38.880 Machen MacDonald: How are you man.
00:16:39.600 --> 00:16:48.180 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Great Man Mason coming to us from Northern California right by taco place that I can't wait to retire in but many years to go before I retire.
00:16:49.170 --> 00:16:49.770 Machen MacDonald: There you go.
00:16:51.000 --> 00:17:00.630 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So Megan. This is the method PART OF OUR SHOW. We talked a little bit about the science behind what you do, how you go to market your story is an amazing one to me.
00:17:01.170 --> 00:17:09.180 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Lay it on us. How do you go to market. How do you do what you do, what gets you going in the morning, which I know you are an early riser. Talk to us.
00:17:10.350 --> 00:17:19.170 Machen MacDonald: Well, Steve, I think the primary thing is to really be clear, have a deep sense of clarity around why we're on this big blue marble.
00:17:19.740 --> 00:17:32.760 Machen MacDonald: You know, we all have different talents insights we had different experiences you know as kids growing up where there's a saying in psychology. It says, wherever we're most wounded were most accomplished.
00:17:33.840 --> 00:17:39.240 Machen MacDonald: You know, and we find ways to overcome adversity and that usually becomes our strength.
00:17:39.690 --> 00:17:50.520 Machen MacDonald: And lo and behold, that's something that we can share with the world because there's a lot of people out there that need what we've got. We just have to figure out what that is. And there's there's processes to go about that.
00:17:51.690 --> 00:17:57.360 Machen MacDonald: You know, we run our clients through a purpose and mission exercise and once you get clear on that.
00:17:58.230 --> 00:18:12.960 Machen MacDonald: Man, you can you can approach everything in life in that way, you know, even if it's just emptying the garbage or, or, you know, buying milk at the store. If you do it in that certain way, you start to attract in all kinds of goodness into your life.
00:18:13.860 --> 00:18:23.640 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Yeah, it's a truer words were never spoken. That's a lot of how I feel with my thoughts on people process product is that most of business and personal life can be explained that way.
00:18:24.150 --> 00:18:33.810 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And I wholeheartedly agree that you know some of life's best lessons come from the failures, so that's that's what it doesn't kill you, make you makes you stronger type of concept.
00:18:34.230 --> 00:18:39.360 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But, you know, talk to me about that because you're somebody who's had crazy success. Along the way, with what you do.
00:18:39.990 --> 00:18:48.570 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You know, not not everybody's had complete success along the way and I, you know, I'm going to go out on a limb and say, you might have had a misstep here or two where something didn't necessarily go your way, but
00:18:49.020 --> 00:18:59.430 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You know what, what, how did you really use that into, you know, into a great, you know, Lethal Weapon, if you will, out there for you to sharpen your skills and really bring them home for other business owners and advisors.
00:19:00.510 --> 00:19:04.350 Machen MacDonald: Yeah, actually, Steve. I've, I've always been successful. I've never failed.
00:19:04.740 --> 00:19:05.520 Ah,
00:19:06.810 --> 00:19:09.990 Machen MacDonald: You know, one of the things like when I'm doing a presentation.
00:19:11.340 --> 00:19:33.000 Machen MacDonald: In my little bio of my accomplishments. I put in there, frequent failure, failure but failure right and and we have to we've it's just feedback failures just feedback. And if we're not willing to get messy to be embarrassed to screw it up to be ridiculed.
00:19:34.020 --> 00:19:39.360 Machen MacDonald: You know, good luck. You've got to be willing and it doesn't mean that it's always going to happen, you know,
00:19:39.960 --> 00:19:45.990 Machen MacDonald: And thanks for, you know, acknowledging some of the successes along the way. But the reality of it is
00:19:46.410 --> 00:19:56.130 Machen MacDonald: For me, at least, this is the way I kind of see it, it's, it's, I'm in my life in three different areas I'm either riding the wave right having some success.
00:19:56.580 --> 00:20:04.260 Machen MacDonald: Or I'm paddling like hell to catch the wave, you know, just the grind the trying to get up to that next plateau.
00:20:04.620 --> 00:20:13.170 Machen MacDonald: Or and we've all been there. I'm getting crushed by the wave and it happens, but it's not going to last forever. So it's that mindset of knowing
00:20:13.470 --> 00:20:25.080 Machen MacDonald: Okay, you know, I'm wiping out here. This things aren't going according to plan. I'm going to learn something. Right. And I'm not going to give up. And those are the two pieces for me that allow me and
00:20:25.710 --> 00:20:34.680 Machen MacDonald: Push me through the different quote failures, is I don't believe I can fail because the only way for me to fail my rule around failure.
00:20:34.980 --> 00:20:45.240 Machen MacDonald: Is I have to give up and I didn't learn anything. And for me that's virtually impossible. So I don't fail, even though I do a lot of stuff that doesn't go according to plan.
00:20:46.320 --> 00:20:55.320 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): No, I, I love that mindset. And I know you're very big on mindset, by the way, thank you for making beach references as I am a Jersey Shore, boy, I know your opposite coast.
00:20:55.650 --> 00:21:04.950 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But yeah, you know, everyone pretty much knows I'm a movie and TV guy as well. It's, it's not really wearing the Bart Simpson underachiever and proud of it. Man type of t shirt. It's
00:21:05.190 --> 00:21:13.890 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): It's having the right mindset. It doesn't matter if you fail as long as you take some type of big lesson from it, whether it's a business lesson or a life lesson.
00:21:14.310 --> 00:21:21.990 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): That's again. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I know that you're somebody who really believes in not not only making money and building the
00:21:22.320 --> 00:21:31.710 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Business brilliance and growth but mindset. Half the battle is the mindset I would, I would argue that especially nowadays you know you have things like the pandemic going on.
00:21:32.070 --> 00:21:39.450 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I've always had the mindset that global national challenges can be seen as something to conform to and deal with
00:21:40.260 --> 00:21:51.090 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Or something where you can see different opportunities that you might not have been used to. How have you seen different opportunities during this time. And how have you helped some of your clients and prospects use different opportunities.
00:21:52.170 --> 00:21:59.880 Machen MacDonald: Like, great question. You know, with something like that, especially with what's going on in the world now on so many levels.
00:22:00.420 --> 00:22:06.930 Machen MacDonald: The quality of our life is in direct proportion to our ability to handle uncertainty right we
00:22:07.740 --> 00:22:18.360 Machen MacDonald: And we always have the power to choose the most healthy perspective, right, we can always look on the bright side, there's always a bright side, no matter what the sun's always shining, even if there's a
00:22:18.720 --> 00:22:32.100 Machen MacDonald: You know clouds between us and the sun is always shining and we have to know that right there's there's something called Stockdale paradox. And I don't have it completely memorized, but it's something to the effect that
00:22:32.730 --> 00:22:37.440 Machen MacDonald: You know, we always have to keep the faith that it's going to work out.
00:22:38.970 --> 00:22:51.450 Machen MacDonald: Even well exercising the discipline of doing what we have to do in this moment you know slaying whatever dragons. There are at this time. Now, he was a survivor of the Vietnam.
00:22:52.170 --> 00:23:01.620 Machen MacDonald: War being a prisoner of war for seven years, right, seven years of uncertainty, not knowing if he's going to wake up the next morning or ever see his family again.
00:23:01.950 --> 00:23:10.860 Machen MacDonald: You know, we've been in this pandemic thing for you know seven or eight months. And a lot of people are losing, losing their crap.
00:23:11.310 --> 00:23:20.250 Machen MacDonald: And it's all in here. It's all how we see what's going on. And I call it a two by four life is either happening to you or for you.
00:23:20.550 --> 00:23:28.710 Machen MacDonald: So what's the benefit. Right. What's the opportunity. Do you hear opportunity knocking and how are you going to answer it. And it's not good for everybody.
00:23:29.160 --> 00:23:38.400 Machen MacDonald: You know, during this pandemic my own business has actually doubled, just because I've been able to pivot online, I'm saving a ton of windshield time traveling
00:23:38.760 --> 00:23:47.400 Machen MacDonald: Not airports hanging out and flying all over the place. I can get focused and it's that power of focus. It's empowered, a lot of opportunity.
00:23:47.670 --> 00:23:56.250 Machen MacDonald: And the same is true for a lot of my clients, they've had to pivot do things a little differently. But there's opportunity, there's opportunity everywhere. You just have to look for it.
00:23:56.670 --> 00:24:06.630 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You wouldn't be both man definitely saving the miles on my car as well. I've always loved the idea of being able to work remote. It's always just it's tough to be mandated to work remote. I like to
00:24:06.960 --> 00:24:15.150 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Shake hands give hugs kiss babies have drinks. And by the way, I know you're in Northern California guy, and I'm a big Grateful Dead fan. So the idea of
00:24:15.660 --> 00:24:25.140 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Keeping the right perspective. I know you writer. The sun will shine and my back door someday, baby. So you got to keep that type of mindset. I'm very much in the same camp is you
00:24:25.650 --> 00:24:35.070 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So how are you going to market for this, like, what's your, your breath of experience is is crazy like you've been your own business owner, you've been a trusted advisor.
00:24:35.310 --> 00:24:43.830 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Now you're you're looking to, you know, really coach, folks, whether their business owners trusted advisors, you know it's it's such a, it's a great thing. Like I
00:24:44.220 --> 00:24:53.220 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Have a father who was a teacher with the New York City Board of Ed for 35 years and I always like, you know, saw me out the fun parts of being a teacher and the challenges of being a teacher.
00:24:53.550 --> 00:25:02.670 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Yet there's when you have a message like yours. That's so powerful. And I feel like it's you can't you can't not share it. So tell me how you guys are going to market right now.
00:25:03.840 --> 00:25:14.280 Machen MacDonald: Well, right now, it's really a matter of doing things, just like this. It's telling people over and over and over and over and over again.
00:25:14.730 --> 00:25:23.640 Machen MacDonald: How you can make their life better, how you can add value to their life and the reality of it is, you know, you were talking about money earlier.
00:25:24.060 --> 00:25:31.110 Machen MacDonald: Money is just a unit of energy. Right. And it's going to go where the value is. So if you know what your clients need
00:25:31.590 --> 00:25:43.830 Machen MacDonald: Your prospective clients right there. They're looking for a benefit and impact or a transformation of some kind, right moving from here to here, whatever that is, maybe it's more money comfortable retirement.
00:25:44.490 --> 00:25:51.300 Machen MacDonald: Peaceful family life better health, whatever that is, if you've got the tools and resources to help people.
00:25:51.930 --> 00:26:02.340 Machen MacDonald: Transition transform to that life that they want. They'll pay you all day long. Right. Happily, and so what we do is we just listen for with our
00:26:02.910 --> 00:26:07.050 Machen MacDonald: ideal clients right small business owners entrepreneurs financial advisors.
00:26:07.740 --> 00:26:18.030 Machen MacDonald: we've listened for what they're struggling with. They're either worried about something struggling with something or have great concerns around something and we know what that is. Typically, it's like lead generation, for example.
00:26:18.300 --> 00:26:29.640 Machen MacDonald: So we just go out and talk to people, Hey, you know, would you like to be able to triple your leads and double your sales conversions and find an additional hundred thousand dollars it's sitting untapped in your business.
00:26:30.090 --> 00:26:35.040 Machen MacDonald: You know what business owners going to say no to that. Right. So you've got to have this compelling message.
00:26:35.340 --> 00:26:46.260 Machen MacDonald: Have a bright future that they're looking for. What's their compelling future. And if you can be the bridge to that gap or the boat that takes them from, you know, this short of that. Sure.
00:26:47.640 --> 00:26:55.260 Machen MacDonald: You know, they're going to hire you. And that's, that's what we're doing. And so we're doing it through the web, mostly social media.
00:26:55.560 --> 00:27:02.190 Machen MacDonald: Where and how we met RIGHT ON T and G. You know, it's a networking event that's virtual so
00:27:02.640 --> 00:27:11.910 Machen MacDonald: You know, I'm here on the west coast and you know every month. I get to travel over to New York City and you know and hang out with, you know, almost 40 people
00:27:12.270 --> 00:27:20.310 Machen MacDonald: And get to learn who they are. And I've developed some great relationships and, you know, here we are, as a result of it. And there's going to be magic along the way.
00:27:20.760 --> 00:27:29.130 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And we love having you here on the East Coast mission. I hope you love having me on the West Coast because there'll be stuck with me in my retirement years if I get my way. I promise you that.
00:27:29.490 --> 00:27:36.030 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So yeah, you said a couple things there that that pulled my heartstrings, a little bit. I've spent a great deal of time in my career.
00:27:36.690 --> 00:27:44.760 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Around service business. And that's, you know, B2B service business. So working with SMEs, a lot of times you know some of the service business.
00:27:45.120 --> 00:27:54.630 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You know, for a bit for small medium sized business owners. They're seen as a commodity. They're seen as a product they're seen as something. How much do you charge for this where I think it's
00:27:55.020 --> 00:28:01.920 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Evident out there that you and I would look at it as you're not buying a technology or a product you're buying the people in the process.
00:28:02.130 --> 00:28:12.780 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): To help you get where you want to go, you're buying the guide through the wilderness, not a map and a compass. How do you get people to focus on what's important, which is the people in the process.
00:28:14.580 --> 00:28:16.950 Machen MacDonald: Another great question. Yeah. When we go
00:28:18.900 --> 00:28:26.580 Machen MacDonald: Where we go with it is we always say if you don't, if you can't tug on the heartstrings, you can't open the purse strings.
00:28:27.150 --> 00:28:36.330 Machen MacDonald: Right, the way our brain works is there's this outer ring called the neocortex and that's where you and I can understand what we're saying we get the numbers and so forth.
00:28:36.750 --> 00:28:43.080 Machen MacDonald: And that's where a client will say, hey, good presentation makes total sense. It's a definite maybe. Let me think about it.
00:28:43.590 --> 00:28:50.310 Machen MacDonald: And the reason is, you know, does make sense. But that's not where we make our buying decision we make our buying decision in the
00:28:50.730 --> 00:29:00.630 Machen MacDonald: Limbic System of the brain, the heart of the brain. And that's where emotion is house. So we've got to speak emotionally to people and find out what it is they want
00:29:00.930 --> 00:29:09.000 Machen MacDonald: And what's that's going to give them when they get there. How are they going to feel about themselves. What does it mean about themselves and be in that conversation.
00:29:09.510 --> 00:29:22.560 Machen MacDonald: And that's where people want the help. Right. And most people don't know how to connect with themselves. So if we can take them from here down to the hearts, a short journey but takes some time. If we can do that were invaluable to them.
00:29:23.010 --> 00:29:34.560 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I fully agree in order to care. People have to feel we're going to take a quick commercial break. We'll be back with nation McDonald, founder of the pro brilliance Leadership Institute, talking about the madness of this travels. We will be back.
00:31:59.250 --> 00:32:09.840 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Alright, welcome back everyone. You're back with always Friday me Stephen Fry your SMB guy. We're chatting with mission McDonald, the founder of pro brilliance Leadership Institute.
00:32:10.260 --> 00:32:21.210 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We're talking about building business brilliance, we're going to get into some of the madness behind nations business what he sees on a day to day basis. Some stories, if you will, from his travels as of late.
00:32:21.510 --> 00:32:31.230 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And one thing that mission brought up in our last segment that I wanted to re emphasizes I actually met nation on a virtual networking group missions in Northern California. I'm in Central New Jersey.
00:32:31.890 --> 00:32:38.430 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And really nowadays connecting with somebody you know if they're three miles away. It's no different than 3000 miles away.
00:32:38.940 --> 00:32:47.430 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Also met executive producer of talk radio dot NYC Mr Sam Leibowitz in the same networking group which is called T and G the networking group.
00:32:48.000 --> 00:32:56.820 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): vetted community of professionals that, you know, really, you know, get together on a regular basis and share, share their connections, not so much a transactional product.
00:32:57.300 --> 00:33:02.010 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Oriented conversation, much more of a people conversation which, as you can tell, is important to me.
00:33:02.490 --> 00:33:09.270 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Getting back to the madness of nations business. So one thing that we mentioned earlier nation from your provoking your brilliance book.
00:33:09.840 --> 00:33:21.960 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): This quote really resonated with me like you must have a superior mental and emotional foundation on which to direct that business plan. And since we're now in the madness portion of our of our show here.
00:33:22.890 --> 00:33:34.200 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): It's really rare that I find a superior mental and emotional foundation. So are we looking for a unicorn here mission or is it something that really exists out there that we can help facilitate with our SMB guy.
00:33:34.950 --> 00:33:36.840 Machen MacDonald: No, it's more like a purple dragon.
00:33:38.250 --> 00:33:45.150 Machen MacDonald: Yeah, so the thing with with the the mental and emotional foundation or as we call it the me foundation
00:33:46.200 --> 00:34:03.720 Machen MacDonald: It's real simple. If you draw a box and split it and four in the upper right box is the outcome or the results that we want, right. More money, more clients more time, more love, more health, whatever it is we want more of something or maybe less of something
00:34:04.770 --> 00:34:07.560 Machen MacDonald: And that upper right box is
00:34:08.070 --> 00:34:23.790 Machen MacDonald: Driven by the upper left box which is our actions and our behaviors. So we've got to do certain stuff right you know I'm out in California and I can just, you know, sit in a yoga position and have everything work out, right, I'm gonna go do something
00:34:24.690 --> 00:34:32.640 Machen MacDonald: Now, what inspires us to do. It comes from the bottom left box which is made up of our feelings and our emotions.
00:34:33.150 --> 00:34:43.500 Machen MacDonald: And so think of emotion is energy in motion. If we're feeling inspired and unstoppable. We're going to take inspired and unstoppable action.
00:34:43.830 --> 00:34:48.120 Machen MacDonald: Right that upper left box which is going to get us the results. But if we're feeling
00:34:48.870 --> 00:34:58.830 Machen MacDonald: uninspired or expired and timid and uncertain, we're probably not going to take the actions we need to to get the results that we want.
00:34:59.280 --> 00:35:11.400 Machen MacDonald: And so what is the energy in motion that comes from the bottom right box and that's made up of our beliefs, our ideas and our thoughts or bits bi TS beliefs, ideas and thoughts.
00:35:11.820 --> 00:35:22.080 Machen MacDonald: So whatever's going on in the upper right box right look at your world. Look at your bank account. Look at your relationships. Look at your health, whatever showing up in that upper right box.
00:35:22.470 --> 00:35:33.480 Machen MacDonald: Is going on in the lower right box in our thoughts, ideas and beliefs, so we can, in essence, reverse engineer our success. So something's not working out. You want more money.
00:35:34.080 --> 00:35:44.310 Machen MacDonald: Okay, let's get a plan. Let's look at the actions we need to take to make more money. How do we need to feel throughout the day to be able to take those actions and what do we need to believe is true.
00:35:44.610 --> 00:35:48.480 Machen MacDonald: About ourselves about our products and service about the world about the market.
00:35:49.260 --> 00:36:06.810 Machen MacDonald: Right and redesign that we wrote it originally at some point, usually unconsciously. So now we need to wake up rewrite or re story restore what we want for ourselves. The story or destroy the old narrative and restore
00:36:07.200 --> 00:36:17.340 Machen MacDonald: Restore the new narrative. And so whatever you want in the upper right box you can write it in the lower right box and then just start to play the game.
00:36:18.180 --> 00:36:25.470 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I love everything that you just said, especially the idea of reverse engineering success, you know, as I said in the beginning of the show, it's
00:36:25.800 --> 00:36:32.070 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And I would hope you agree with this, it's far too often these days where people are looking for the magic wand. It's
00:36:32.310 --> 00:36:37.440 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Very often, in my travels, it'll be ready fire aim building the plane in the air, however you want to.
00:36:37.710 --> 00:36:46.710 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Really talk about it out there, but it's not about the shiny new mouse trap. It's about who's moving the cheese. So, you know, people and process so
00:36:47.190 --> 00:36:52.140 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Again, it's it. I feel like this is something that probably happens often to you is
00:36:52.410 --> 00:37:05.670 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Your coaching clients and all that they're, they're probably engaging with you in the beginning, thinking that you know there's some type of resources or downloads or program to 12 step 10 step and whatever programs, it is that they can follow
00:37:06.150 --> 00:37:14.130 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But a lot of times they might be missing the idea of you and your team and your thoughts on how you actually go about building business brilliance.
00:37:14.730 --> 00:37:22.110 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Is that the case or people generally understanding that it's about having the right guy like a mission McDonald by your side, as opposed to a map and compass.
00:37:23.190 --> 00:37:37.740 Machen MacDonald: Well, a lot of, you know, here's the thing. A lot of entrepreneurs are do it yourselfers right if something's going to get done. They're going to be the one to do it. And it's hard for them to let go and do through others with a team.
00:37:38.310 --> 00:37:48.210 Machen MacDonald: But those that are cut out for it and can work with a team. They've got to learn leadership. They've got to understand how to hold people capable
00:37:48.600 --> 00:37:57.030 Machen MacDonald: Not accountable, but capable and people want to be held capable, right, because when we have a capacity to do something.
00:37:57.810 --> 00:38:03.990 Machen MacDonald: And then we've got our performance, to the degree that that gap exists.
00:38:04.890 --> 00:38:14.550 Machen MacDonald: We're unhappy. We're not feeling fulfilled. But when we get our performance up to our capacity and we know we're doing our best. That's when we feel good.
00:38:14.850 --> 00:38:27.060 Machen MacDonald: And our capacity increases and we come up. So, truth be told, you know, we're kind of under here like this. We're not too far down. But when we're down here. What's keeping us from our capacity coming three flavors.
00:38:27.570 --> 00:38:39.480 Machen MacDonald: It comes from rationalization blaming and shaming and the rationalization or rational lies that we tell ourselves and others as to why we can't perform at our capacity.
00:38:40.020 --> 00:38:50.370 Machen MacDonald: When we blame we're making somebody else responsible where we dropped the ball and then the shame. That's where most people fall is they dig in their heels.
00:38:50.880 --> 00:38:58.350 Machen MacDonald: For a less than posture. They argue for their limitations. I can't grow. I can't learn you know I'm hot tempered
00:38:58.980 --> 00:39:11.130 Machen MacDonald: We never did it this way. Right, so they're digging in. And if you look at the first letter of those three words at the bottom are BS. Right. It's our BS that keeps us from responding with our ability
00:39:11.610 --> 00:39:11.910 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But it's
00:39:12.000 --> 00:39:16.020 Machen MacDonald: Not yeah it's not the BS. You're thinking of its belief system.
00:39:16.380 --> 00:39:26.280 Machen MacDonald: And it brings us right back to that bottom right quadrant right so if we, as a leader, if we can help our team better manage themselves.
00:39:26.970 --> 00:39:34.350 Machen MacDonald: They're thinking right in their heart in relation to everything that's going on, looking for the bright side, reverse engineer the success
00:39:34.950 --> 00:39:41.190 Machen MacDonald: It's just a matter of time. There's always a gestation period for success right you plant the seed, you know,
00:39:42.120 --> 00:39:51.930 Machen MacDonald: For a carrot takes you know 7090 days you plant the seed for a baby. It takes nine months, you wouldn't want to rush the process. Either way, because you're not going to like the result.
00:39:52.230 --> 00:40:00.570 Machen MacDonald: So success is going to have its own gestation period. And we've got to be that busy be going from flower to flower while we're pollinating
00:40:01.200 --> 00:40:12.900 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Make sense yeah I mean to me. It absolutely makes sense and to take it a step further, like, as you said, a couple things that really again tug at my heartstrings there. You said leader and leadership, a few times and to me.
00:40:13.380 --> 00:40:21.690 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I would hope you agree there's a discernible difference between leadership and management. Very often SMB owners and leaders.
00:40:22.770 --> 00:40:29.040 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): confuse the hell out of the two. To me, you know. And again, you can give your take on it as well. I'd love to hear it.
00:40:29.760 --> 00:40:39.840 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Leadership is about the people in the process management often is more about the product and measuring performance like revenue fiscal year or whatever you're doing.
00:40:40.410 --> 00:40:56.100 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And a lot of times if somebody is running a team and running an initiative more with a management lens than a leadership lens. That's when I see the more of the RBS coming into play, which I would argue is not only belief system, but some other BS as well.
00:40:56.340 --> 00:40:56.640 Yeah.
00:40:57.750 --> 00:41:12.690 Machen MacDonald: No, I totally agree with you on that Steve its leadership is is about the people. If we grow. The people. The people will grow the organization management is all about the numbers and the metrics and activity. Yep.
00:41:12.750 --> 00:41:22.050 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I forgot who said it but a train your people so that they can leave and treat them so that they never do or something along those lines.
00:41:22.110 --> 00:41:24.150 Machen MacDonald: Yeah I would totally agree with that.
00:41:24.780 --> 00:41:33.630 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Yep. So, in the spirit of training people so that they can leave you arming them to be as dangerous as possible with all of their methods madness and messaging.
00:41:34.290 --> 00:41:44.760 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You know what else have you been seeing out there as of late. I mean, my travels, again, it's almost like there's no happy medium right now. It's like some businesses are in straight survival mode.
00:41:45.360 --> 00:41:56.520 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And some are using what could be argued as survival mode as being strictly maybe there are three different things using survival mode as strategic time, which is something that you and I love to talk about because
00:41:56.850 --> 00:42:05.160 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): You know, every opportunity in the world for someone to partner with you right now, even if they're, you know, struggling business wise right now might give them some fresh perspective on it.
00:42:05.670 --> 00:42:17.910 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And then the other end of the scale is I'm seeing businesses that are doing the best that they've ever been just due to their industry nature and pandemic restrictions and their specific product or service offering.
00:42:18.630 --> 00:42:27.000 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): What have you seen out there that's been like hot topics consistent asks of you and maybe some consistent craziness that that you find yourself up in
00:42:27.840 --> 00:42:42.810 Machen MacDonald: Well you know what's really top of mind for most people. It's, you know, the overwhelming uncertainty and what I've found is we actually have a process we call it image. I am a G.
00:42:43.440 --> 00:42:49.170 Machen MacDonald: And it's a way for a business owner or a sales professional to
00:42:49.680 --> 00:43:01.350 Machen MacDonald: Just get back to center and know that they're on purpose. And real quick. It's just the eye in image is intention, set your intention for the next segment of your day.
00:43:01.680 --> 00:43:07.770 Machen MacDonald: So before we came on to this podcast I send an intention for myself and the listeners and for you, Steve.
00:43:08.160 --> 00:43:20.310 Machen MacDonald: Of how I was hoping this would go what success could look like. And I'm not worried about my next several appointments throughout the day or lunch or anything like that. I'm just in this segment. So be intentional. That's the I
00:43:20.730 --> 00:43:31.050 Machen MacDonald: The M is look for the magic, right. Look for the magic that life is great that life is working that everything's going to be okay. Going back to the Stockdale paradox.
00:43:31.500 --> 00:43:38.100 Machen MacDonald: What's the magic, even if it's finding a diamond the parking lot right that's hey you know the universe is abundant it's showing me that I belong.
00:43:38.820 --> 00:43:47.490 Machen MacDonald: The A is for affirmations. Now, most people think of affirmations as an I am statement so set an affirmation for how you want to be.
00:43:47.850 --> 00:43:57.510 Machen MacDonald: During a certain segment I want to be resourceful. I want to be courageous. I am courageous. I am powerful and more importantly, especially when we get knocked off our mojo.
00:43:58.470 --> 00:44:00.870 Machen MacDonald: Is do an ask formation.
00:44:01.170 --> 00:44:15.870 Machen MacDonald: In other words, why am I courageous. Why am I successful. Why am I happy and just like Google, when we type the search and it goes out into the universe it pings out there and comes back and brings us the evidence to support that story of why we are that
00:44:16.680 --> 00:44:28.830 Machen MacDonald: Then the gratitude is the G. Nothing gets you out of being confined gold quicker than go into gratitude, even if it was just a great cup of coffee in the morning, find something to be grateful for.
00:44:29.160 --> 00:44:34.590 Machen MacDonald: And then the E, we do at the end of the day, and that's expansion. So knowing what your values are
00:44:34.950 --> 00:44:51.360 Machen MacDonald: Where did you expand and your values. So my values as an example are contributing learning growing. So at the end of my day. I take inventory of how did they contribute, what did they learn how did they grow. And I actually write that out and we have it in our journal that we have
00:44:52.530 --> 00:45:01.470 Machen MacDonald: Where on the left side of every day. It runs you through these prompting questions so that you can impact your image and make a difference.
00:45:02.010 --> 00:45:13.350 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I love the thought. I love the process. And speaking of image when we come back from commercial we're going to get into the messaging of, you know, what everyone should take away from you know over the weekend for Monday morning.
00:45:13.770 --> 00:45:21.270 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But we're also going to see what nations face looks like on his answers to my favorite three questions which once again is absolutely stellar so
00:45:21.660 --> 00:45:28.620 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): More to come on that will be right back after commercial with Mason McDonald, founder of pro brilliance Leadership Institute.
00:45:28.860 --> 00:45:36.960 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): It's going to give you some of the pearls of wisdom. So you take the Friday insight and turn it into Monday impact will be back in just a few moments. Stay with us.
00:45:42.120 --> 00:45:42.900 NYC.
00:47:57.450 --> 00:48:02.070 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Alright everyone, welcome back to always Friday with me. Stephen Fry your SMB guy.
00:48:02.430 --> 00:48:18.060 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We're talking with mission McDonald's, founder of the pro brilliance Leadership Institute residing in sunny Northern California. One of my favorite places on the planet. And on that note, I, I took this message off of missions website that's right behind me right now mission is that hahaha
00:48:18.540 --> 00:48:19.680 Machen MacDonald: That is Tahoe, baby.
00:48:20.730 --> 00:48:25.710 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I can't tell you. I just like soothing feeling of calm that just washes over me when I see
00:48:26.850 --> 00:48:35.820 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So, you know, as we've spoken about me mention this is the messaging part of our segment of our show here, you know, we want to put a bow with all of our listeners on
00:48:36.030 --> 00:48:45.420 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Really what they need to take away here today, you know, capture some of that clarity and that freedom of Friday to go into the weekend to really make it more impactful business Monday.
00:48:45.780 --> 00:48:56.820 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So I want to, I want to tell everybody a little bit about something that I saw on your website Mason's got an endless amount of content on his website. So definitely urge you guys to go to grow brilliance calm.
00:48:57.270 --> 00:49:01.530 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But he has a blog that he did called trust your bright side, and it goes over
00:49:01.890 --> 00:49:09.690 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): B RI GH T. As you can tell me she's got a great number of acronyms. To summarize all of his thoughts processes and philosophies.
00:49:09.960 --> 00:49:14.910 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): But this is what I wanted to share with you guys. I thought it you know went a long way to taking away a great message today.
00:49:15.420 --> 00:49:21.120 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): The trust your bright side. Let her be said be the best version of yourself in the current situation.
00:49:21.450 --> 00:49:26.040 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Probably not a more appropriate one to discuss during the pandemic issues that we're having, but
00:49:26.340 --> 00:49:30.930 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We may not always have control over the situation or circumstance, within which we find ourselves.
00:49:31.170 --> 00:49:38.100 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): However, we always have the power to choose the healthiest perspective from which to view what's going on and how to operate accordingly.
00:49:38.340 --> 00:49:44.400 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): We get to stay in our power and access our highest awareness and deepest resources for when the going gets tough.
00:49:44.910 --> 00:49:56.490 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): That's being your best version of you. Don't cry for it to be easier strive to be better. In doing so, we increase our capacity and as that happens, what was once challenging
00:49:56.910 --> 00:50:04.680 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Does become easier I freakin love that. What else should everybody take away here today nation so that they can have an impactful Monday.
00:50:05.820 --> 00:50:06.510 Machen MacDonald: Oh, man.
00:50:08.430 --> 00:50:10.260 Machen MacDonald: You know, I would say.
00:50:11.460 --> 00:50:27.180 Machen MacDonald: Be aware of your brilliance. And what I mean by that. Is there certain things you know you do. Well certain things that come easy and those things may not be easy for other people.
00:50:28.830 --> 00:50:49.830 Machen MacDonald: And that's what people want from you. So if you can imagine three circles, a Venn diagram. I call it purpose passion and profit or purpose, or excuse me pay off. And so this weekend, take some time and take inventory of your purpose. What do you do really, really, really, really well.
00:50:50.880 --> 00:50:52.890 Machen MacDonald: What do you do better than your competitors.
00:50:54.150 --> 00:51:07.440 Machen MacDonald: Make that list and then make another list of what you really enjoy doing in your business right we shouldn't be doing everything in our business, there's certain things that we can outsource or hire to or stop or eliminate
00:51:08.040 --> 00:51:15.780 Machen MacDonald: So make those two lists and you'll find that some of that overlaps. Okay, that's your zone of brilliance.
00:51:16.530 --> 00:51:23.190 Machen MacDonald: And then we look at what's the hierarchy, what are people going to pay the most money for of those things that we're really good at doing
00:51:23.700 --> 00:51:30.990 Machen MacDonald: And that we enjoy doing. And that's our zone of brilliance, where all those three overlap, where we can make the money.
00:51:31.350 --> 00:51:38.280 Machen MacDonald: That's what we should be doing is setting up our business then so that it keeps us in that zone of brilliance.
00:51:38.790 --> 00:51:45.420 Machen MacDonald: And saying no to all the other things or hiring somebody else to do all those other things that need to be done.
00:51:46.410 --> 00:51:53.520 Machen MacDonald: And so whatever you find yourself doing throughout the day, it better be something that you really love and that you're good at. Because if it's not
00:51:54.030 --> 00:52:06.300 Machen MacDonald: It's hell right next to more circles right either say hell yes to doing some or Hell no, to not doing something. And if you kind of wiggle in between all that is is hell right
00:52:06.630 --> 00:52:09.270 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): From the start, well it sounds like, for sure. But, uh,
00:52:09.750 --> 00:52:17.160 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Yeah, it's it. I couldn't agree more with what you're saying. Getting SMEs, especially to work on their business instead of in their business.
00:52:17.460 --> 00:52:21.690 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Is something that has been a big part of my travels over the last 20 years and
00:52:21.960 --> 00:52:33.840 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I think that the two of us could do a great PPP tour together. I could talk about people process and product and you could talk about purpose passion and profit they all blend really nicely together anyway. Yeah, so more to come on that that show is coming soon to a theater near you.
00:52:35.370 --> 00:52:43.410 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I think you've given everybody some great food for thought here. Let's have some fun with everybody who's watching and and listening. We could always talk to this so
00:52:43.650 --> 00:52:49.830 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): My magical three questions. Once again, who was your favorite movie or TV show character. What is your favorite movie or TV show.
00:52:50.340 --> 00:52:55.470 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And what is your favorite musical instrument and the artists to place it so much like like myself.
00:52:55.770 --> 00:53:11.280 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): It has a hard time giving one answer to these things, multiple answers and I'm totally cool with that. Especially if it makes for more funny pictures so Mason's favorite TV show character is none other than Frasier crane. So make sure you look pretty good this razor. I gotta say.
00:53:12.240 --> 00:53:13.950 Machen MacDonald: No wonder I like Frazier.
00:53:16.200 --> 00:53:19.320 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And I have to say. Also, I don't look too bad as Niles so
00:53:21.090 --> 00:53:24.180 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): That's our roads were together, we can do a hell of a job. I think so.
00:53:24.780 --> 00:53:33.480 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So nation's favorite movie character was a phenomenal answer, and he couldn't name just one because he loves the actor so much and I would have to agree.
00:53:33.930 --> 00:53:43.320 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): He said anything by Jim Carrey and I mentioned I couldn't help myself. And this is don't take any, you know, personal reflection on this. I had to go with Dumb and Dumber. I'm sorry.
00:53:43.680 --> 00:53:46.560 Machen MacDonald: Sure you know because Ace Ventura was out of the way.
00:53:47.940 --> 00:53:51.450 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): I actually, I tried to get your face on the Ace Ventura picture when he's
00:53:51.600 --> 00:54:05.760 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): In the mental institution with him in the two two and everything with the football, but it just wasn't working for me. I thought you look phenomenal as Lloyd Christmas, though. But, you know, more importantly, you and I look awesome together as well so
00:54:06.090 --> 00:54:06.600 Machen MacDonald: Love that.
00:54:08.940 --> 00:54:20.010 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): So moving right along, favorite TV show, which is one that I keep meaning to get into Peaky Blinders and you definitely look like you could be an English gangster, for sure. It's not just the
00:54:21.270 --> 00:54:25.530 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Derived name. So it's, you definitely look like you can play the role
00:54:26.970 --> 00:54:30.060 Machen MacDonald: Yeah, talk about business owner, he he's ruthless in that
00:54:31.260 --> 00:54:31.530 Machen MacDonald: No.
00:54:31.560 --> 00:54:38.670 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): No question. And yeah, one that I've been meaning to get more into and especially now that you said ruthless business owner and obviously pulls my heartstrings in the right way.
00:54:40.170 --> 00:54:47.070 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Favorite movie none other than Top Gun and yeah Tom Cruise. Eat your heart out mission Drew's
00:54:48.210 --> 00:54:57.120 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And then I can't remember if that's goose or ice behind you. But, uh, looking pretty handsome gentleman back there. I'm going to say it's nice because I think we all know what happens to goose along the way but
00:54:57.570 --> 00:55:03.930 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Yeah, I'm not going to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen Top Gun. But if you haven't seen it yet a TV. Yeah.
00:55:05.430 --> 00:55:13.950 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): The last but not least, one that I couldn't get patients face on it was a tough one gave a great answer to this. So Megan's favorite musical instrument is the drums
00:55:14.760 --> 00:55:24.660 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And none other than Mr. Buddy Rich God rest his soul. So yeah, great, great show great having you here mission. I can't thank you enough for joining us today.

00:56:21.510 --> 00:56:26.970 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): One more hour thriving and the part of the business that you are passionate about or spending an hour personal self care.
00:56:27.240 --> 00:56:34.080 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): Many SMB owners feel that they can't achieve any of these types of goals because they don't have reliable trustworthy help while that may be true.
00:56:34.410 --> 00:56:39.870 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): The opportunity exists in 2020 and beyond for us of us to hire virtual assistants who make a massive impact.
00:56:40.170 --> 00:56:51.030 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): This is what my special guest, and her team does for organizations all over the country. We will be joined by Marilyn gives the founder of assistance for hire a firm focused on creating processes strategies.

00:57:12.060 --> 00:57:16.440 Steven Frey (SMB Guy): And she casually reminded that I do not belong reminded me that I do not belong on the same courses.
