2020/05/28 - The Courage to Change Your Mind and Live Stress-Free

[EPISODE] The Courage to Change Your Mind and Live Stress-Free

This week on Voices of Courage, host Ken D. Foster is joined by Dr. Laurel Mellin, a health psychologist, researcher, New York Times bestselling author, and the founder of Emotional Brain Training (EBT), a neuroscience-based solution to stress, and Dr. Susan Shumsky, a highly acclaimed professional speaker, bestselling author, and highly respected spiritual teacher and founder of Divine Revelation® a unique field-proven technology for contacting the divine presence, hearing and testing the inner voice, and receiving clear divine guidance, to discuss how we can improve our health and vitality, manifest our dreams, and live a stress-free life.

Dr. Mellin discusses resetting how we approach stress based on how the brain works and how Emotional Brain Training maps our health, happiness, spirituality, relationships, and productivity in a structured way that empowers us to self-direct our own emotional health and well-being. Dr. Shumsky shares how we can take command of our lives in highly effective, powerful, positive ways by learning how to listen to our voice of divine intuition and receive clear inner divine guidance anytime we want.

Segment 1

Ken welcomes Dr. Lauren Mellin to the show and asks her to apply her expertise in emotional brain training to help listeners relieve stress during quarantine. Dr. Mellin explains how quarantine can serve as an opportunity to reset the way we deal with stress. Instead of ignoring stress (as most Americans do), take this time without outside distractions to evaluate how you’re feeling. Look for physical and emotional responses to stress to gauge your stress level.

Segment 2

Ken starts this segment with the question: once you identify your stress, how can you let it go? Dr. Mellin tells us it all starts with your morning routine: as soon as you wake up, tell yourself you’re going to create joy in your life today. Stop normalizing stress, which is not only toxic to your mental health, but your physical health as well. You can use Dr. Mellin’s app, Brain-Based Health by EBT, to help you spiral up from stress to well-being in just a few minutes. You’ll learn how to rewire triggers (relying on sugar, procrastinating, etc.) to avoid creating stress and to reconnect with yourself. Emotional connection is key to creating a centered self. Segment 3

Ken welcomes bestselling author Dr. Susan Shumsky to the show. He asks her how she began writing and speaking about finding inner wisdom and divine guidance. Dr. Shumsky explains that she was first interested in reaching Nirvana and began meditating. She studied with and worked for spiritual guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for two decades, learning the ins and outs of transcendentalism. After this experience, she began exploring divine revelation, which became the subject of many of her books. Ken and Dr. Shumsky discuss true meditation – to truly experience spiritual awakening in an intentional way, you must close your eyes and sit, rather than walking or performing another activity. Beginners should try guided meditation through resources such as Dr. Shumsky’s book Third Eye Meditations (available in print and as an audio book). Dr. Shumsky tells us that the greatest benefit of meditation she has experienced are happiness and the development of intuition through relaxation and spiritual awareness.

Segment 4

Ken asks Dr. Shumsky to speak about human energy fields and how raising our consciousness impacts them.  Dr. Shumsky talks about the 5 koshas, or sheaths. The first sheath is the physical body, then a vital energy sheath that surrounds the physical body, a mental emotional sheath that allows perception, an intellect-ego sheath, and a bliss sheath by which you individuate. We are multidimensional beings that live in many bodies and realms that all serve to keep us alive. It is vital that we maintain the health of all of our bodies through good thinking, speaking, and doing. You can learn more about Dr. Shumsky’s books and ideas through her sites and
